Lancaster trip follow-up

My mom and I made it out to Lancaster on Saturday. First, I'd like to thank you all again for your suggestions! They were perfect and my mom and I had a great time.

We started in downtown Lancaster at the Lancaster Central Market (23 North Market Street, Lancaster, PA). The market was basically a large farmer's market with vendors for meat, dairy, vegetables, baked goods, canned and jarred goods, spices, teas and coffees, etc. It lacked a place to have breakfast (unless you just wanted coffee and donuts) so we picked a restaurant with outdoor seating. The people watching was great, the food was standard. After breakfast we did another swing through the market to do some shopping then wandered through some of the local shops. I was amazed by how affordable everything was!

Our second stop was to Lititz for The Wilbur Chocolate Company (48 North Broad Street Lititz, PA 17543). The chocolate company did not disappoint! It smelled wonderful and had so many items to choose from. We spent about an hour in the store before making our final purchases and heading out to explore the rest of the town. It was a hot day so I'm really happy I remember to pack a cooler or all of our yummy chocolate would have melted!

Lititz is such a cute little town and, oh my goodness, is it wholesome! It felt like a movie set from Pleasantville. The were so many cute little stores (antiques, vintage clothing, toys, gifts, home goods). We didn't have enough time to look through them all so we're going to head back at some point. Again, everything was so affordable compared to what it is here. Before heading out, we stopped into The Bulls Head to grab a beer. They had a nice selection of beers on tap and it looked like they had a nice menu as well. We'll be stopping in again when we return.

Our last stop was dinner at Mary's Meals (131 S. Pool Forge Road, Narvon, PA 17555). Dinner is at 5:30 sharp so when we got there a little early, Mary told us to go walk around her property until dinner was ready. She has horses and buggies but she also has a trampoline and swimming pool... Her house is pretty much a modern ranch and her kitchen looked newer than my own. She has a stove and an oven, she also has a refrigerator. The only difference is that her's run on gas. There were 14 of us that night for dinner and I'll admit it did feel a little awkward to be eating with 12 strangers in this woman's home. But everyone was friendly and Mary was open to answering any questions people had. We started with fruit salad. Then there were three kinds of bread (white, dinner rolls and an apple zucchini). For dinner there was breaded chicken, roast beef with carrots, pasta, baked corn, mashed potatoes, zucchini casserole and a broccoli-cornflower salad. For dessert there was vanilla ice cream, lemon curd pie and peanut butter pie. It was a ton of food and everyone was able to have seconds and thirds if they wanted. I think the most impressive part of the meal was the little boy (maybe 8 years old) that quietly helped Mary by doing the dishes and cleaning up. If you are interested in Mary's Meals, she will do dinner or lunch any day of the week, except for Sunday, as long as she has 8 or more people interested. You can call her at 7174458253 to make a reservation.
