iPhone with Verizon or AT&T?

So, I already have service with Verizon. Been with them probably 10+ years, always been happy with service. As of right now, I have just a regular phone, no data package. I'm eligible for an upgrade in about a month, but my contract is up early next year. Does anybody what the difference is between the 2 carriers? As far as I've read, both get pretty good service as far as the actual iPhone itself is concerned. It would be much easier to stay with Verizon....but I don't know how they compare with AT&T. I would have to pay if I broke contract before February...and I know that can be pricey too. Thoughts anyone?

Re: iPhone with Verizon or AT&T?

  • I think I saw a thread on this recently on another board.  IIRC, the consideration boiled to this: you can multi-task on AT&T while making a phone call, i.e., use the internet while talking, but Verizon's coverage is better so you are less likely to have problems with your service.

I'll be interested to see what others have to say.

  • We looked into that before the iPhone came to Verizon. (We've been with Verizon forever). That being said, we noticed it wasn't going to be that much different for our 4 lines to have 2 switch to smartphones/plans. I've just heard many people being unhappy with AT&T's service areas, etc.It seemed to service more of urban areas as opposed to more suburban/rural areas. So we waited & then it came to Verizon.

We love our iPhones on Verizon. I don't care if the internet doesn't work during calls. I can't multi-task that much and besides you can do other things while talking like go into your calendar and other utilities.

Plus, breaking a contract can cost serious $$$.

  • We have iPhones on AT&T and SO has an android phone on Verizon for work.  In our experience, the AT&T 3G network is much faster than Verizon's 3G network, but Verizon's network is larger and we have data service in many more areas on that than AT&T.

When we switched to AT&T from our old carrier, AT&T gave us a credit on our account for the amount we had to pay the old carrier to break contract.  So we really got out free.  If you want to switch, it wouldn't hurt to go look at phones and ask them what they can do about that fee with Verizon.

  • My husband has an iphone on at & t and I'm on Verizon so we have some good insight on this subject.

At&t: you can be on the phone AND internet at the same time and it's WAY faster but calls are dropped more than we'd like.

Verizon: you can't be on the phone and internet at the same time and it's slow. However we find calls are rarely dropped.

If it's for business prob At & t would be better. If it's for personal, Verizon. BUT, BEWARE both have changed their unlimited plans so be sure to do your diligent homework on that. I think that could end up making your decision for you. Oh and right now you can get out of Verizon contracts if you want since they changed their policy, it's a little loop hole. They'll deny it at first, ask for a manager and they'll do it for you without penalties. I read it on Lifehacker.
