Pediatric dentist...recommendations please

Where do you take your LO to the dentist?   M has most her teeth, so my pedi recommended that I get her into the dentist soon.   Just not sure where to start.  I want her to have a positive experience.

Also - anyone have ideas to brushing LO's teeth without holding her down?  M used to let us brush w/ no issues, now she refuses and throws fits because she wants to do it herself.   Which is fine, but mostly sucks the water out of the brush, or chews on it (only one side)... any pointers?

Re: Pediatric dentist...recommendations please

  • I don't have any pointers, but DD sees Dr. Jane Bennett in Papillion. We seriously love her, and DD has always had a more than positive experience. Check out the website!

  • Dr. Hohenstein - heard great things about him!
  • We go to Children's Dental Specialists.  They were recommended to me by my dentist.  J loves it there!!  D has her first appointment next month.  I guess I've always had luck with "say ahhhhhh" and then brush as much as I can as quickly as I can.  I repeat that until I feel like I've done a sufficient job!  Because Jameson is a little bit old, I can reason with him "I brush first and then you can brush second."  That USUALLY works!  :-)

  • We see Dr Bryan Hohenstein.  His office is on 180th & Q.  They boys have been going to him since they were about 18 or 24 months old.  We've also taken C to our regular dentist, Dr Greg Beals at Pacific Springs Dental.
  • yes, Dr. Bennett is awesome.  Her receptionist is so friendly and happy, and the staff  has gone out of their way to make K feel comfortable, because there are always a ton of tears when we go!

I used to let K brush my teeth and then say "Okay, now I get to brush yours."  I would say "Make a funny face, make a scary face" in the mirror while I brushed her teeth.  I always let her do it herself first, and then I would try to get a few seconds of brushing in!

  • I take my kids to my dentist. He has 4 children of his own and is great with them (you probably don't want to drive to Springfield for the dentist though ;)

I have a deal with my kids... I brush and then they get to. It seems to work fine.
