Has anyone read Twilight?
I realize I am a few years behind, but I just listened to Twilight on tape. It was not a high quality book, (a good summer read) but I thought the author did a good job of getting into a teenage girl's head. I also thought the entire book was vampire foreplay! I was laughing out loud at all the forlorn, sappy lusting. I also don't quite understand people who are obsessed with the series. Did anybody get really into it, and are the next two books better?

Re: Has anyone read Twilight?
I've read them 4x, as well as Midnight Sun online and the spinoff novella from the 3rd book.
I'm a hopeless romantic, so these were right up my alley.
Most people find the 2nd book to be the worst/darkest, and opinion is split on the 4th (I really liked it).

Ha, a few years behind?!
lol.
Yes, I read all 4 books in 3 weeks 2 summers ago. DH had moved to SC 2 months prior so we got rid of cable. I did lots of reading!
LOVED the first, but I did think the books went steadily downhill from there. I did enjoy them though.
I am currently on the last book of the trilogy "The Hunger Games."
Ugh, I have a love/hate relationship with them.
Bella is such an anti-feminist. "I should put myself in danger to get the attention of the guy I like". Um, no. Not the best role model for 14 year old girls. She's so needy and desperate for a man. Gah.
And they're super Mormon. Which is fine, but there's a lot of Mormon theology hidden in there.
But I read them all within a couple of weeks because I couldn't put them down LOL.
Oh, and Stephanie Meyers is really not a strong author.

I've read the Twilight Series and The Hunger Games.
The Hunger Games trilogy is AMAZING. Twilight had me hooked as an easy read, but I definitely can't stand Bella's desperation at a high school age. Kind of threw me off a bit.
I am emphatically anti-Twilight, but I confess that I've never read a single page of it. Once I found out the main character is named "Bella Swan," I just couldn't go there. But since I've read all but the newest of the Southern Vampire Chronicles (aka the Sookie Stackhouse books), I certainly don't throw stones.
And if you're looking for good YA fiction that's a quick (but emotional) read, I highly recommend If I Stay/ Where She Went by Gayle Forman. I couldn't put either of them down. But be warned: I finished the first one on the bus, and I was so glad I had sunglasses on, because I was bawling. I was smarter for WSW, and finished it at home, heh.
And The Hunger Games trilogy is awesome.
I agree, the first book was the best. The second, I felt like she rushed through it. I was like, "wait, what?" when it was over.
I'm halfway through the last and I really have to be in the mood to pick it up and read it. I don't like feeling that way about a book.
I found the pacing of the third one really off-putting. The first two were so rapid-fire, you just couldn't put them down. Without spoiling too much, the biggest problem I had with the third one is that there was way too much of Katniss being told what happened, as opposed to being part of the action. And I often wonder what a really strong writer could have done with them.
Still, I mostly loved them, and I'm looking forward to the movies. (Though I know they'll probably be a disappointment.)
I totally want to be cast as Katniss. TOTALLY.
I completly agree about the pacing of the third one, the rhythm is so different. Did you hear that Lenny Kravitz is playing Cinna? I always look forward to movies made from books, but they never live up!
I did! I didn't realize he was acting now, but I hear he was really good in Precious. And I can totally see him as Cinna.
I think they did a great job casting the adults- Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, etc. I'm not sure about Peeta or Gale, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt because I don't think I've seen them in anything before. And I totally agree about books-to-movies. I am really looking forward to One Day and The Help, because I loved those books, but I'm nervous about how they'll translate.
