Party Question

We're having people over on Saturday and I found a thing on pinterst that I love.  Basically, you cut an orange (or I bet a grapefruit would work) in half, scoop out the fruit and then fill the halves with jello.  After the jello sets, you cut the fruit half into slices.  image

I want to do this, but I don't want to waste all the fruit.  What can I make with all the fruit I'm scooping out?  Can I make a drink with it?

And yes, I'm adding vodka to the jello.  Big Smile

Re: Party Question

  • Yum!!

You could put it in a strainer, mash it to "squeeze it" and make fresh squeezed juice for screwdrivers.

I think you can also probably google any orange dessert. Everything only uses the insides anyway and that's the only part you'll have. Did you try Pinteresting orange desserts?

  • I was going to say make juice by putting it in a mesh strainer and mashing it.
  • Wow what a cute little dessert!! Love that idea.

  • Those are so cool! I'm gonna have to remember this the next time we make jello shots.

I'd either squeeze the fruit for juice or throw it in a bowl and have it for snacking.

  • Okay, Pinterest search is a fail. It keeps bringing up oranges or desserts - not both.

Back to the old trusty Google:

Orange Cake - only uses juice though

    Orange Cake Balls

...or you could just somehow try to get the pieces out fairly nicely shaped and do a fruit salad. Nothing goes better with vodka and a party than fruit salad, ha!

  • Thanks for the suggestions!  I'll have to look through my cupboards and see what I have that will work with orange.  I'm tempted to try an orange sangria....
  • Blue Moon tastes good with oranges in it.
  • I saw that and thought it looked really cool. Let us know how it turns out.

As for the fruit its self. You could throw it in a fruit salad. Or strain it like everyone else has said and make martini's with it.
