Poll: DH's Clothes You Hate

Does your DH have any particular articles of clothing that you cannot stand?

If so, what?

Would you ever secretly throw it away?

Mine has this tank/muscle shirt that is a gray camo print and is 2 sizes too big.  I frickin' hate it.  He wears it around the house all.the.time.  I desperately want to throw it away or hide it.

He also wears Saints football jerseys year round.  He has 2 and will wear at least one at least one day while he is home.  My dislike has nothing to do with the team, but more of me thinking it is silly for a grown man to wear a football jersey year round.  There is no way I could get rid of them though.

Re: Poll: DH's Clothes You Hate

  • I throw H's clothes away all the time.  I also do all his shopping though, outside of underwear and socks.  I figure I can pitch whatever I want if I'm bringing home several new things to replace.

  • DH had an orange button down shirt from Old Navy that we bought for our honeymoon 6 years ago.  He wore it so often that it was faded and had a hole in it.  He would STILL wear it.  I tried to sneak it into the "donate" pile once and he found it.

He once showed up for a lunch date wearing that shirt and a pair of green camo shorts.  I told him not to ever wear that in public if I was going to be here. LOL

The shirt has successfully disappeared in the past few months.

  • DH had a navy/yellow check shirt that I hated. I generally do not like true navy and regular old yellow together. Yuck (no offense, Michigan). I eventually told him I hated it and he allowed me to put it in the donate pile.

I would never throw any of DHs clothes away. He's pretty particular about what he wears. And I think that oversteps, even in marriage. Lord knows I would never let me husband dictate what I could wear or couldn't wear.

DH has a A&M sleeveless T that he recently wore to the grocery store.  I abhor men wearing sleeveless shirts.  The next time laundry was done that shirt accidentally got put away with my t-shirts.  It has since been buried in the bottom of my t-shirt drawer.

So, in answer to your question:  I'd never throw it away, but I can't help it if he can't keep track of his possessions & they happen to get misplaced.

V - you haven't seen K rocking this particular camo shirt.  In all fairness, I have a pair of truly hideous shorts that I wear around the house on occasion and he hates them.  I'd be mad if they disappeared so I won't really toss the tank...I just might put it in a drawer he doesn't open very often.

  • Lol... I was just talking to my cousin about this subject this morning.

DH had these carpenter jeans from ON. I HATE carpenter jeans/pants. I asked him if he was going to build something, then he could keep them. We live in a 1 bedroom apt. No room to build anything unless it comes with all the parts like the ikea stuff. They went into the donate pile.

He had these HORRID plaid, multi-colored button down shirts. Like what we used to wear in middle school. He also had these button down shirts that look like ones from the cover of one of Garth Brooks albums. It was blue on the right sleeve/peck area and left gut area and green on the left sleeve/peck area and green on the right gut area. They were all donated. :-)

It sounds like the difference here is your husband cares about what he looks like, and mine doesn't.  He is content to look like a hobo.  I would hope that if I wore a shirt 2 sizes too small with my hairy gut hanging out the bottom, that someone would tell me it was not a flattering look.

  • DH is a pretty good dresser so no real complaints other than his damn Crocs.  They are so ugly.
  • DH has hung on to clothes that I hate, but never wears them.  Like these basketball jerseys from before we dated.  I'm not even sure the players are still alive.

I won't toss his clothes, but I will say something if I don't like a particular item.  I do toss undies.  He's got one pair that are about to vanish.  He'll notice though because he likes wearing them.  I may say the washing machine shredded them...

Right there with you.  I think everything I didn't like has been pitched except for one UGLY tie that he holds on to that a student gave to him.  The student came from a tough background and DH took him under his wing.  He's going to law school now.  I can't get rid of it.  No matter how ugly I think it is.

  • My H has a Red Cross blood donation shirt that he wears all the time. Even to work on casual days. I hate it, its a ugly color, and was a "freebie" shirt.

He also has a hawaiian like shirt, instead of flowers it has boats. Its a button down shirt, & his mother, father & him have matching ones. They also have a hideous posed picture of them all wearing it.  Thank God he no longer  wears it, but it haunts the closet still.

Both shirts I have thrown away NUMEROUS times. Somehow they find their way from the outdoor trash can, or stuffed into a goodwill box..back into the house.

Oh I ask first.  Just persuaded him to get rid of the dated; you know you're never going to wear this again, stuff.

  • from his cobra-ownership days, he still has some ford t-shirts that have like, COLORFUL GRAPHICS on them.  one is a whole mural of ford from hen you were a kid to now.  oh man, nothing like racecar t-shirts.

he also has a pair of "christopher robin" looking sandals that i dislike.  the toe is covered, and they have a velcro strap on the ankle.  they're super nice distressed leather, but i hate them...lol.

This is my dh too.. except change crocs to italian leather shoes.  The problem is that he doesnt have (well now he does but I had to work with him on it) regular fit jeans to go with them, only relaxed fit, so it looks dumb - like they are too baggy and then the shoes are too skinny.

  • Some of his ties.  They look like something my grandpa would wear in the early 90's.

I don't throw any away.  But I do buy him a new tie every Father's Day to try to give him plenty of current styles to choose from on the rare occasion he actually has to wear a tie.  He got pink last year (Maddie picked it) and has yet to wear it, lol.  He got a purple/navy patterned one this year.

Where do I start?? DH has at least 30 t-shirts, most of them with some sort of writing/graphic on them. Some of them are fine, but others are faded and the graphics are cracked/peeling off. They are a mess, and he still insists on wearing them all. He used to wear Lee jeans (I know!), but luckily I got him to switch to Levi's. I dont get it. He has good taste in other clothes for the most part, especially with suits and shoes. But he Wears the t-shirts mostly, so no one ever gets to see the good stuff! I won't ever throw anything away though.

  • Nanner, I am laughing so hard at the "Lee Jeans (i know!)" right now but trying to be quiet so H doesn't ask what I'm laughing at, because then I will have to tell him I hate his Christopher robin shoes. Charlotte... Mine has a pair of sweatpants. Luckily he reallyonly pulls them out for yard work but still. Gah!
  • DH has 2 or 3 identical manilla colored t-shirts he wears around the house. They are such an ugly color and one has paint on it and holes. When we first met, he would wear them out in public. I was finally able to stop that. I did hide one of the shirts for a while in one of my drawers, but stopped short of throwing it away. He also has a few short sleeved collared work shirts that are "old man" looking to me in their patterns. He obviously disagrees and continues to wear them to work. He was much worse when I met him, so I have been able to make progress with his wardrobe.  Stick out tongue

rrr was still wearing ancient frat party t-shirts when we met, and I finally got him to let me turn them all into a quilt. A few of the very cracked one he actually let go entirely, thank goodness. I found a big U of A fleece panel and used that for the back.

I go through and throw out his socks sometimes. He has stacks of brand new socks in his drawer, most of which were bought by his mom (who passed away in 2007). He feels he must wear socks until they're barely held together by threads.

Other than that, for the most part he dresses better than I do!

  • Yes he has several things that I really hate. He wears these sweat pants that are gray and have holes in them. He says they are super comfy but they are so stinking ugly. He also has his work shirts (they are union shirts) that he wears to work and every where else. When we go out he thinks he should wear them. Just about all of them are faded and have holes. I want to throw them out but he will throw a fit if I do. It seriously looks like he can't buy new shirts.

  • DH has over a HUNDRED t-shirts...  Yes, 100+ shirts.  We have plastic bins of them in attic that are "sentimental"....  He has been doing all kind of racing (marathon, bike, tri, iron man) for over 30 years and he feels the need to keep every damn shirt..  Even worse if people will give him theirs so he has multiple of a lot of them.  At one point we took SIX GARBAGE BAGS full to the Goodwill....  Did I mention that 99% of them are UGLY.  They are a variety of colors and all have something written on them..  Many have holes and some are THIRTY YEARS OLD!!!!  I limit the number in our closet to 100....  There just isn't room for more...  yes, some disappear in the wash..  Our machine eats things Angel

This is DH's pant of choice as soon as the weather cools down.  He wears them everyday, like normal people would wear jeans.

  • My big pet peeve ... DH almost always wears 3-button polo shirts to work and he likes to wear another shirt underneath. That would be fine except the t-shirts he wears seem to have really long sleeves and they stick out from under the other shirt. It looks terrible and drives me nuts! I've bought him a ton of plain white undershirts but he insists on wearing regular (printed) t-shirts under everything.

He has a few things I hate and he doesn't wear them too often ... but he won't get rid of them. He says "it's just for around the house."  I'm glad he understands that it's not socially acceptable to wear these things in public but my problem is that "around the house" means around ME. I'm the one who has to look at them.

This is my DH.  Well over 100 t-shirts.  Half of which he can't wear. (I don't dislike most of them, but he has way too many!)  It annoys me to no end b/c he complains that his closet is filled to the brim and mine isn't.  That's because I got rid of things I could no longer wear after we moved!  He had a pair of ugly leather sandals that I really really didn't like, they broke finally.

Other than that, for the most part I have no issues with how he dresses.

  • I have gotten rid of the shorts that were literally falling apart. The 1 thing I HATE that he loves to wear.  This ugly fishing shirt he got from work.
