Interview scheduled along with "pre employment testing"

Is anyone familiar with what this is?  It's for a job in the insurance industry.  Would it be a skills test or typing type test?  Any idea?

Re: Interview scheduled along with "pre employment testing"

  • It could be typing or any other number of skills that they're testing for.

The company I work for makes everyone do a series of "personality tests" during their first interview. I found out later that there are certain things they look for in their employees to ensure they are a good fit for the firm. An offer of employment weighs heavily on your test results...I know several people who didn't get hired because their tests showed they didn't react to stress well.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. This is probably something you can't really prepare for, so just do your best & don't let it impact the rest of your interview. Good luck!

  • I work for an insurance company and had a test when I applied. I can't remember the whole thing, but what I remember are parts that were really basic (do you know how to read, spell, use a calculator to do basic math, read charts and policy provisions, etc.), a typing test (for speed and accuracy) and a part where you had to write a letter for a specific situation.
  • My guess it that's it's a behavioral/personality test. They probably want to evaluate if you may be a good fit for their culture.
  • I actually am going to my 2nd interview with an insurance company and I had several pre-employment tests I had to take. The 1st two were the personality test and the typing test. The typing test was just to test for speed and accuracy. These tests were taken before my 1st interview and if they weren't passed with competative results then I wouldn't have even had my 1st interview. The 3rd test I had was a language proficiency test. I am bilingual. Not sure if this would apply to you. This test was basically speaking on the phone with one of their employees that spoke my language and her seeing how well I spoke it. If I didn't pass that test I couldn't move on to the 2nd interview with a panal of 3 hiring mangement. Hope this helps. Good luck.
