need wedding favor wrapping ideas

I need to figure out how to wrap some small porcelain plates that I purchased as favors for my wedding. They are round and 7.5 inches across, which is proving to be a difficult size to find boxes for. I've found one type of box that will fit the plate, but it's very tall (like maybe 6" high), so each person would have a rather huge box at their place setting. Which might be ok, but I'm not sure how to wrap them then, and it might just look very strange to our guests. I also thought about wrapping them in some kind of netting (like tulle-looking) and tying them off with a bow. The problem with that is that it's a destination wedding, so I'd like to have the plates a little more protected for the guests to transport them home. I would love any suggestions that you have!

Here's a link to the plates (I'm sorry, I don't know how to make it clicky):  lacepottery.com/dainty-pineapple-dishsmall-p-40.html

Re: need wedding favor wrapping ideas

  • Those are very pretty.  Did they come in some kind of a bubble wrap or something?

What about putting them in one in padded envelopes?   They come in a variety of colors and sizes.

I think you could easily dress it up by tying ribbon or something around it, and it would offer cushioning and make it easier to pack.  I would guess that people will either choose to carry it on, or they will use clothing as padding and figure it out.
  • 8"x8"x2" boxes? Not the most elegant of options, but, you'd have room to pad them on top and bottom.

If you don't need many and are feeling up to it, boxes aren't tough to make at all. Michael's sells a MS Scoring Board for $20 (~$10 w/coupon). Grab a craft knife and some card stock, and get to work. Alternatively, you can use an electronic cutting machine to do the cutting for you, if you have access to one and appropriate design software.

ETA: Those are very pretty dishes, but, (genuine question :) what do you expect them to do with them? Candle plate? Candy dish? You could buy the bigger boxes and add in an appropriate "thing" to go along with your vision for them, then the boxes won't seem so oversized.

I do think the padded envelopes would be fine, too. And take up the least amount of packing space.

  • Those are pretty.

I like the padded mailer idea - ditto TBM, you can definitely dress it up a little if you want, label guest's names on the envelopes so they know to take one, AND it seems like the padded mailers would be easy to pack.

  • I would wrap them in tulle or something, for each place setting, and then have decorated padded mailers in a basket by the door to take with them.  That way, you get the "prettyness" on the table, and they have a practical way to get them home.
  • Thanks for your ideas everyone! I really like the idea of wrapping them in tulle for the tables and then having padded envelopes that people can take on their way out.
