Dinner at the Claremont

DH is having a recognition dinner for work at the Claremont.  What should I wear?  Business formal (suit)?  Dress pants?  Business dressy (work type dress)?  Non-business type dress?  I'm lost.  If it was a recognition dinner for me, I'd probably go with dress pants, but I'm just some arm candy tonight (ha!), so I'm not sure if I should dress up a bit.

Re: Dinner at the Claremont

  • Hi there. You know it depends on the restaurant there. I didn't realize it until we went there for our 3rd anniversary but there are several restaurants inside the Claremont and some are dressier/fancier than others.

Yeah, I would ask your DH which restaurant it is and then you can look up or call about the dress code/fanciness level. It's really cool to go to the Claremont though. I've always thought it was such a cool location.

It's just in one of their ballrooms, I guess not in one of the restaurants?  I called and they said they had no info on a dress code :(  I am looking forward to seeing the inside; I've never been there before.

Ah then I guess it would be more the dress code of the people hosting it/your DH's work organizers. Have a good time!
  • I would mirror what your husband is wearing.  But it's never bad to go a bit nicer!

I don't love wearing suits, so I generally don't unless I HAVE to (aka interview or giving a talk).  I'd probably wear a nicer, professional dress -- like a Diane von Furstenberg type wrap dress.  Long-sleeved, knee-length, with hells and nice jewelry.

    Something like this:  http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=prod128960030&srccode=cii_18492716&cpncode=00-46507894-2&ecid=NMCIBingShoppingFeed&ncx=n&uEm=%25%25CSE%25%25

Clearly, that's just an example, but you can find this style of dress at Target, too (but easier for me to search for dvf than search target.com!).

Or a sheath dress is always classic!

Haha, it has to be something in my closet, as we are walking out the door shortly!  I have a sort of sheath dress in a matte gold that I'm wearing.  I have three different wraps/shrugs in my purse (dark brown sweater=more professional, cream pashmina=more casual, sequin shrug=more dressy).  My plan is to hide in the car and watch a few other women walk in and then throw on the appropriate wrap.  Sometimes I hate being female.

Genius!  Let us know how it turned out!

Thanks :)  Went well.  DH got a nice trophy.  I matched most of the wives and was a little on the dressier end, so I threw on the brown sweater and felt very comfortable in the room.  Most of the female recipients were all business, but there were several LBDs in the room.  I really need to shop for a LBD; that's a huge hole in my wardrobe and such an easy fallback.
