SP: Anyone here do Juicing?
First a quick funny story. When I was talking about this with DH he had a weird look on his face. When I finished my story, he looked at me and asked if I was actually thinking about starting to take steroids!
Anyways, I women I work with is into the holistic lifestyle and knows my health background. She highly recommended that I begin juicing. I've done a little research but am still unsure.
I at fruits and veggies (probably not as many as I should but I do). I am trying to watch my sugar/carb intake b/c my blood sugars have been running high of late.
Any thoughts? I posted on H&F too.
Re: SP: Anyone here do Juicing?
Would this be supplementing regular meals with juice? Or, replacing some meals with juice?
Given the blood sugar issue (in conjunction with other medical stuff), it seems like it could be dangerous to do a lot of the fruit juices, or do meal replacement with juices... especially since you'd be losing a lot of the fiber.
I'd think it couldn't hurt to add more veggie juices or (veggie juices with a touch of fruit juice for flavor) in conjunction with real meals... then you'd be getting the vitamins and some of the fiber, but not hitting your body with an overload of sugar in the absense of fiber.
I'm no expert, though!
Do you have a website you've been reading? Now I'm curious.
A lot of my yoga friends do green smoothies and green juices. I haven't gotten off my bum to try it yet, but they all swear by it.
With smoothies, you are drinking the pulp and getting more fiber. With juicing, you need to figure out a way to reuse (baking) or dispose of (composting) the pulp.
Here's a place to start:

This was an answer on H&F. Sparked quite a debate but there is a link to juicing. I think I am going to "blend"
I guess I'm in the minority, but I started juicing about 5 months ago and I am so glad I did. Yes, it removes the fiber, but if you're eating enough vegetables and fruits throughout the day, fiber shouldn't be an issue. Juicing allows the concentrated nutrients to enter your blood stream almost instantly. Green juice in particular has an extremely alkalining effect on the body.
A usual morning juice for me (and MH) involves 1/2 head of kale, 1 head of romaine, 1 cucumber, 1 whole beet, 4 stalks of celery, 1 carrot, a piece of ginger and a half of a lemon. I have the Breville Compact Juicer- it cost me about 100 dollars and it's been fine for our family of two.
It does take some work and some preparation, so some days I just do a green monster in my Vitamix, but when I have the time, I would now prefer to juice. It does take about 15 minutes to clean up, though.
If you are interested in learning more about it, www.crazysexylife.com has a lot of information about the benefits of juicing. Also, Kris Carr just came out with a new book called "Crazy Sexy Diet"- it's a lot of information about raw foods and veganism, BUT even if you're not into that, it has some really great information about juicing.
Fwiw, I like Kris Carr a lot.
Aside: wtf is up with the tone on H&F? Maybe they aren't eating enough, b/c there was way more attitude than your post called for.
