Re: WWYD?
SS.
If it was a great deal and a great/reliable car, then I might, especially if the car I "love" wasn't necessarily more reliable/better for the extra $4000.
If they were equal in all aspects but appearance and I had already planned on spending the extra 4k, then I would probably do that and get the car I really wanted.
I think it also would depend on how long I planned on driving the car.

It is a really good deal on a reliable, well reviewed car.
The car I like better (not love) is $4k more, 1 year older and has more miles, so comparatively it may be a better buy.
Also, at some point in the future, we'll likely become a 2 car household, at which time H would drive this car and I would get a different car. The timing on this is unknown and depends on too many factors to give an accurate estimate at this time (baby, day care, where we both work at that time, where we move in Nov, etc.).

Well put.
How long I was going to be driving the car would be a big factor for me. How the 4k was going to be used would also make a big difference. Case and point, if I was going to use it to go on a vaca, I probably would go with the car that I really want. However, if the 4k was going to be used to pay off the remainder of my credit card debt, then I would probably go with the other car.

I will also say, right now, I drive maybe 2 days a week, and just for errands (Costco, Target, groceries).
We'll likely move and it will require us to drive to work in November, but we work 4 blocks apart and so we'll carpool.
We won't move more than 15 min away.
We go on 1 big road trip per year (East Coast to Midwest) where we'll spend 16 hrs/ time in the car each way. Over the next few months we'll probably also take a 3 hour trip and a 6 hour trip.

I did this before (Ford Focus 2000) and bought it new 11 years ago because it was cheaper than my original pick (Honda Civic).
COMPLETE disaster. I know this sounds bizarre but I resented the car and I swear it resented me too lol. I had continual problems with it and finally our relationship came to a crashing halt (literally) when another car hit me and it was totaled.
Get the car you want or something comparable that you don't hate even if it's just cosmetics that's drawing you away.
It's not worth it.
