What is your air conditioning status?

Until today we only had a/c in our bedroom.  This morning we went to buy a big unit to cool all of our downstairs because doggiecrushing is not dealing well with this heat.  It feels so luxurious.  We have kept putting off central air because it feels like there are only a few days out of the summer that we would REALLY want it.  This summer feels so hot though.

Re: What is your air conditioning status?

  • We had central a/c installed a few summers ago and it was so worth it. It really boiled down to installing it or a trip to Spain and Morocco. After much debating, the central a/c won and the following summer, I was so freaking happy we did it!

We obviously have central a/c down here. I can't imagine living here without it.

the summer feels extra hot to you since you are pregnant.

Also, the first couple of weeks post partum you are going to be boiling. I had to change the sheets nightly for the first week or so.

  • We have 3. One in the office where the dog is locked up all day, so we leave that one on while we're gone.  One in the living room, which is usually off during the day, but I've been leaving it on for the last few days since it's so hot. That one is an energy saver, though, so I set it to 72 or so, and it (hopefully!) doesn't run all day.  The third is in the bedroom, and that gets turned on a couple of hours before bed.

My husband is an A/C nut.  I'd rather have the windows open at night when possible, but he gets hot.  And now that we have the dog, who barks at every little noise, it's just easier to leave it on. But it's usually on low once we go to bed.

So yeah. I'm not at all excited to see our electric bill this month.

  • I don't know, I feel like there are a lot more than just a few days most summers when we really want A/C.  When I lived in NorCal it wasn't common at all for places to have A/C and there it really does only get hot maybe two weeks out of the year so we all suck it up.  But here it gets hot and sticky much more often.

DH tends to run hot so we turn it on more often for him.  Thankfully we have two zones so we can just cool one floor or the other and save on energy costs.  We also don't turn it down very low; generally 78 degrees is the lowest it goes.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

We have central air in our townhouse... I think it's saved me this year! I go from a/c at work to a/c in my car to a/c at my house (I am hoping for a break though because i need fresh air!)

Yay!  Something to look forward to.   Ha ha ha ha.

  • We have two window units. One on the main floor, but it has a big space to cool so it only brings down the temp a few degrees (enough to take the edge off), and one in our bedroom.

We've talked about buying the central air unit (since our house has ductwork for heating) and we may next spring but it isn't final. I've been okay so far this year with the two window units we have, but I'm nervous about how hot it will be the next few days.

  • We only have one unit in our bedroom that gets turned on an hour or so before we go to bed. We leave windows open and have a fan in the living room so for the most part it's manageable. And our landlord just put on a screen door so having that has made a huge difference.

  • We haven't turned it on yet.  We only have a built-in wall unit in the dining room/kitchen, so it doesn't help for sitting on the couch or sleeping.  I am too stubborn to buy a unit for the bedroom.
  • We don't have AC at all at home. We've been using the ceiling fans like crazy. Typically our house doesn't feel too hot... except for the past few days, obviously. Our windows are an awkward size and we could never be able to fit a window-unit in. Not a huge deal to us, just crappy for sleeping.

The cats lay on the floor like they're melting... but for some reason they decide to lay in the sun anyway.

We have the duct work too....so it won't be super pricey to get the unit.  It seems like every summer though we are like "well we could totally use that money for something else."  Ha ha ha.

  • I just went outside - it is so humid!  That's what gets me more than the heat.

Every time I feel like I am going to melt, I just think about how cold I was this winter.  It really helps.

I totally do the same thing.

  • We have a unit in every room. We got a quote for central ac this summer, but we decided not to do it if we aren't sure we're going to stay in this house. I leave all of the units running on energy save, open all of the doors and leave the ceiling fans on. It works!
  • AC is a sore subject in our household... We have central air set up, but the old unit does not work. The new restaurant next door has offered to help fix our AC so we can close the windows and not be bothered by the noise from their patrons eating on their back patio. SO does not love AC... so it has not been fixed grrrrr... I'm hot and cranky and might have to call the AC people on my own.

  • We put it on last night.  I can't believe how hot it was even still this morning!  We had three fans running in the bedroom overnight.
  • We have central air and I can't imagine not having it.  I grew up with it though, so I don't deal well without it.  DH though never had it growing up, but he still loves ours.  With the heat and humidity, we've had it on almost every day for the last month
