What's your favorite residential area in Vegas?

And where would you not even consider living (in Vegas)?

Re: What's your favorite residential area in Vegas?

  • We just bought in the South East/Henderson after we SWORE we wouldn't buy anywhere else but the South West/Mountains Edge area and we love the area a lot. I've also lived all over town but I think I would never live in North Las Vegas. Too much crime and not enough things to do. We lived on the East side for a while and hated having to drive 20 or so minutes to get to any good restaurants or to our friends houses or that sort of thing.

Do you live here? If so, what are yours?

  • I agree that Henderson is a good area.  I also considered buying a house in Mountains Edge, although ended up buying in the Centennial area and am very happy here.  There are areas of North Las Vegas that are nice, Aliante is a really nice area and fairly new.  Vegas is a hard area to live in one side of the street can be great and the other side not so great.  If you are considering moving here go to the police station and ask for crime reports in the area you are looking at.  As for where I would not consider living, within 2-3 miles from the strip.  I would also agree with the not so great area of North Las Vegas.

  • Hi :) I moved to North Vegas about a year ago.  Providence is a beautiful area.  It is a master planned community and every major builder/developer is involved.  There's still a lot of construction going on.  They are building elementary schools up there as well.  There's a big community feel within the gates, lots of walking trails, social areas, etc.  Before that we lived in Summerlin which is good & bad- and not the big community feel that I get up here.

While North Las Vegas isn't for everyone, I wouldn't say it has too much crime and not enough things to do. Especially considering that crime happens anywhere and everywhere and is not limited to certain zip codes. I guess I'm used to refraining from insulting certain parts of town due to my job in the rental market.

I've lived in North Las Vegas since 2008, and I have a huge house in a very nice neighborhood. I live near the 15 and 215, so I'm close to everything there is to do in the area. Going to the Strip is very quick unless there's an accident on the highway. My neighbors are friendly, and the nearby community has both a senior gated neighborhood and an elementary school, so there are many ages here.

I totally agree!  When we lived in Summerlin I think the cops were in our neighborhood for one reason or another weekly.  Up here is great.  Very quiet and peaceful and my HOA has only reported 1 break in in the last 14 months.  It's just 15 min to the strip which is nothing and to be honest I like not being near all that traffic and lights and noise that is created down there.  There is a TON to do up here, I have so many places to shop and places to take my toddler that we are never bored.  Plus I have a killer view of downtown :)

If I stand on the window ledge in my office, I can see the Stratosphere. If I go to the edge of the neighborhood, I can see more of the Strip because we have undeveloped land right behind the community.

  • Thanks ladies! We are moving to Vegas, into temporary housing in a few weeks until we sell our house in WV. My husband will be working on w sahara near Rainbow so we asked our realtor So far, to look for listings near desert shores, centennial hills areas. I really haven'tchecked out much in north las Vegas yet; great idea with crime reports.
  • My husband and I have lived in Summerlin for 4 years and we love it! We hail from Ohio and find that the lush green landscaping & small town feel reminds us most (over other LV area) of the midwest.

  • We moved to Vegas from Seattle 2 years ago and LOVE it.  We are up in the Centennial Hills area.  I work on the strip, so it's a little bit of a drive...but I dont' mind it.  I'd rather be far away from those crazies down there.

Try Desert Shores, The Lakes, and Peccole Ranch if you want to be in the general area of your husband's work.  The zip code is 89117 for most of that area.  That's where we are looking to buy within the next year.
