Vent: I'm tired of neighbors who don't care for their dogs. If you're going to put a dog in the backyard, then make sure that it can't get out. Neighbors--don't assume that because I am carrying dogs around the neighborhood that they are mine. I would NEVER walk a dog without a leash, so uppity lady a few houses down, that is not MY dog terrorizing your precious pure-bred Schnauzer. She was on the phone and yelled at me, "Would you come and get your dog?" And I bellowed back, "IT'S NOT MY DOG." Her face was freaking priceless.
I dropped the dogs in their backyard. I likely won't do it again. This is the third time this year (since Jan) that I have returned dogs to their home. It's never just one. I have never received a thank-you, not even when I returned them to the owner themselves.
Screw you, neighbors.
ETA: Added "vents" as my post isn't really a FFFC, I think, but more of a vent.
Re: FFFC's, Vents and AW's
This has been a freaking exciting week for me so lots of AWs:
First, I finally got my formal job offer for The Job. I had lunch with some of my new coworkers yesterday - I am super pumped up and everyone seems really nice and management definitely seems ready to make the changes that need to be made (things never go well when mgmt identifies changes that need to be made but refuse to make them - yuck). I got a substantial raise from my prior position, which I was not expecting at all plus I am eligible for a hefty bonus as well. Money is a pretty good motivator for me especially since I don't exactly have cheap taste.
Second, I sold my car. I delivered her last night. The new owner is soooo cute and so excited so I am glad she went to a good home. My new Elantra will be delivered in 2 - 3 weeks - she is currently on a ship. I can't wait to meet him!
Third, we met with our subcontractor to map out the kitchen. Holy crap, I am so excited. DH and I "signed off" on a ridiculous savings plan last night, so we should be good to go by the end of April, assuming we have no major catastrophes. DH wants me to buy myself a new bag to celebrate The Job but I am soooooo committed to getting this kitchen just the way I want it. No unnecessary spending for awhile.
And my FFFC: I am so p!ssed about Borders closing. Given the economy, I am not surprised the Borders mgmt and their bank could not agree to new terms on their debt but it is still heart breaking. Regardless, I was excited to buy some cheap books so I went by there right when they opened and their books are a craptastic 10% off. WTF. That IS NOT a "sale." Hopefully the books will get cheaper as the sale progresses.
1. I am so excited to see your HOT new Elantra! Although I liked your BMW, those cute Elantras have some sexy curves going on. I can't wait to see it and have you pick me up for lunch!! Not to mention, I'm totally going to be jealous of your gas mileage. Sexy new car and new job all in one week - congrats lady!
2. I am totally bummed about Borders closing. And those liquidation sales drive me nuts when they start at a measley 10% off. Give me a break. I will miss Borders a lot and their free membership program. :-(
Off-topic vent: I don't understand the fascination with Jaguars. A new Jag is great, but 15-20 year old Jags? I know a couple of people who own older models and they can't afford to get them fixed. And let's just say neither of these people are high earners. At all. Yet somehow they get this notion that if they drive a Jag they must be hot stuff, even though their cars are old and they constantly break down. One of them was griping to me this week she had to pay $30 to get ONE wiper blade replaced because she couldn't afford to buy both wiper blades! I just think it's ridiculous to be driving around in a heap of junk that you can't afford to fix properly just so you can say "hey I drive a Jag".... nevermind that it's old and unreliable. Bad financial decisions annoy me.
Vent: I left my phone at home this morning and my boss is gone on vacation starting today. It's going to be a very long day!
First: Puppy, the sales at Borders will get much better. I would try in 3-4 weeks. Should all be 30-40% off then. Less to choose from, but whatever. Agree that 10% is not a sale. You can go to Borders.com right now where things are full price and pay less than that.
My FFFC: My laziness at work this week has been staggering. And I don't care.
AWF: Paying off our vacation today, which means we're "officially" going! It's always nice to know it's paid for and there's no turning back.
my bookshelf!
Bloggy
Um, okay. This person couldn't afford to pay $60 for two new wiper blades? Who the hell doesn't have sixty-fvcking-dollars for wiper blades. I understand we are having a heat wave right now and the chances of rain are zilch but wiper blades are pretty damn important. Why do I have a feeling I know who this is?
Speaking of bad financial decisions - A lot of those girls on MM annoy the fvck out of me. I totally understand being adverse to, say, unnecessary cc debt - but to tell someone not to take out a car loan with 0% interest? Or to not take out a HELOC to do renovations to a house when the HELOC is less than 5%? I have so many thoughts, I just can't construct them all right now. Take advantage of free money, people. Use it wisely, of course, not only does it increase your credit but it is FREE MONEY. Also, they give the same advice over and over again "Buy less groceries, cut back on your cable bill, get a cheap basic cell phone plan" - they told this to a girl that had a combined income of $120k and was saving $2k CASH a month AND fully contributing to her 401k. How about - damn girl! You are making $120k and saving $2k a month - looks good to me. Seriously, telling someone that makes $120k TO CUT OUT HER FVCKING CABLE? Yes, you are dirt poor. You don't deserve cable. Jesus Christ, I nearly had a coronary.
FFFC: I have done nothing yet this summer to prep/revise curriculum for the upcoming school year. In my defense, I still don't know what courses I'm teaching.
Vents: I still don't know what courses I'm teaching in the fall.
Also, to my trashy neighbors: get a full time job. Mow your yard. Take care of your pets. Quit parking in front of the mailboxes. Most of us like to take pride in our homes; would you please do the same?
AW: My principal gave me a smartboard.
I have some of the same problems with MM. Unfortunately, I can't ever seem to articulate my arguments or thoughts so I just stay quiet and don't post. I've learned a lot from that board, but geez louise some of the advice is just absurd sometimes.
I just had a long rant here but to make a long story short: There is no guarantee you will live past tomorrow. And - FICO, sadly, makes the world go round. FICO determines how much you spend and how much you make. The end.
FFFC: I really wanted to call into work some day before school starts again so I can have a break. I am the only full time permanant person in my dept right now so taking a day off that is not medical related is not happeneing.
VENT: I am kind of pisssed at the H right now. He went ahead and took off of work today even though his plan fell through as to why he took off in the first place. Also, I have been working for my parents 2 evenigns a week to give them more time off and they pay really good but H acts like I should still have to do all the laundry, cleaning, dishes and cooking. He is kind of on my last nerve right now, if you couldn't tell.
AW: I get to go watch Buddy Valastro AKA Cake Boss at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center in November with my best friend. I have a great seat in row L smack dab in the middle of the row.
Well the wiper blade lady is actually one of the newer secretaries we've hired so you wouldn't know her. And speaking about our newer secretaries...
BOTH of them take vacation and sick leave like it's going out of style. In fact, they have none left so they are taking leave without pay. EVERY SINGLE WEEK. Either on a Monday or a Friday, one of them is out. And apparently we can't fire them because it's always a "legit" reason like doctor's appointments, car accidents, they're sick, kid's sick, etc, etc, etc. How is it that someone can hold a job and receive benefits, yet seldom come to work and you're not allowed to fire them? And one of them almost always refuses to work OT because even though she's eligible for OT pay, she's basically not getting it because she's taking so much leave without pay. I'd hate to see her paycheck.
AW: I just noticed I'm a bronze poster now. I guess 4 years of being a newbie was finally enough. lol
FFFC: I forced myself to drag my ass out of bed at 11:45.
AW: I'm feeling really productive, though, due to the extra sleep! I've mapped out a plan to finish grading AND get a chunk of writing done on a paper I've been neglection (which I feel terrible about since the coauthor is one of my friends) AND have already made DH 2 healthy lunches and 2 healthy dinners since I won't see him for the next couple of days AND fit in a pool party today for a new coworker. Go me!
All I have are vents. One vent, really.
I've been trying to get a job with a certain org since I started grad school (3.5 years ago), been REALLY trying for 2 years. Have applied for 15 or so jobs (all the same position). All of which I am well-qualified for. Got another rejection e-mail Wednesday. I'm so freaking upset. I really want to work there. It's my only real option in OKC for what I really want to do with my career. I don't know why they aren't hiring me. I know people in the org, I'm involved in the community, I meet or beat all their requirements. I don't get it and I'm feeling very bitter.
We're floating the river this weekend, and we can't decide how much beer to bring. We took a 30 and a 12 pack of beer last year, and ran out of beer at mile 7.
I also refused to camp out, and so we're staying at a hotel with glorious a/c and a delicious breakfast. I'm a brat. We're the only ones doing this.
We had really rough sex last night and I am SORE.
Damn. =( I wish that I had some sage, positive advice, but really, that just sucks. How have they not noticed how awesome you are?
Damn. =( I wish that I had some sage, positive advice, but really, that just sucks. How have they not noticed how awesome you are?
Do you mind PMing me the name of the organization - between Snowful and I - we know a TON of people - maybe we know someone that can help you out?
Puppy, I think you have a PM. It wouldn't let me send a new one, so I had to reply to one you sent me awhile back.
NCLB rears its ugly head once again
And, Okla---I'm so sorry. I have no doubt you'd be great at whatever job you want---like Critti, I don't know the "right" advice, but hopefully some Nestie connections can hook you up!
FFFC: After much consideration and long talks with DH, I've decided BFing/pumping is not for me. G has an appt with his pedi Tuesday so I'm going to talk to her about formula then. I refuse to spend any more of my son's first few weeks of life miserable.
Aw, it sucks that you are having to deal with all of that! Definitely no flames here on choosing to use formula. There's no reason you should have to be miserable! I think making the best decision to allow you to take care of and enjoy your son makes you a great mom.
Okla: Hang in there! I hope that you get the job you want, and soon. I know it's frustrating.
Jamie: Yikes, I would be filing a complaint, too. I cannot tolerate unprofessional behavior in that setting. Uncool. And also, no flames about formula. I was a soy baby, and I'm perfectly healthy. You've got to do what works for you.
FFFC: I gated my kids (a 34 mo & 15 mo) in their room with a bunch of toys for a couple of hours so I could get a break from their neediness, crying, and whining.
Vent: I emailed a slew of people (like 40) about something time-sensitive...and a majority (30+) are either ignoring me or they don't think it's necessary to respond. A response would be nice. RESPOND, dammit! Gah!
AW: My 15 mo was sitting in my lap watching a cartoon, and she tilted her head back and kissed me for no reason. Made. My. Day. Also, I *finally* get my husband for the entire weekend!! He has been working 6 days a week for weeks and I missed him!
Some new AW (I just found out): My brother and his wife have been wanting a baby since they got married. They've been married for 9 years, did everything under the sun, but it wasn't to be. About 3 years ago, they put in for adoption in China, and they are FINALLY getting their "baby" next month!!!!! She'll be 16 months old, but they are happy, and I am so SO happy for them!!! Yay!
Jamie, you gotta do what's right for you and your family. Hang in there, girl! You are a great momma. And so sorry to hear about your ER experience. I hope you start feeling better soon.
