Washing machine question

This is probably a really dumb question lol. Is there a big difference in how clean my clothes get if I run the machine on rapid wash (30 min) vs normal wash (54 min)? Obviously I am sure there is some difference but wondering if I should switch to doing mostly rapid washes unless I have a heavily soiled load? I am thinking it would potentially save a ton of water and energy but I don't want my clothes to not get clean :)

Re: Washing machine question

  • I have been using the Short Gentle cycle and cold water for just about everything (not sheets and towels) for years and our clothes do great.
  • It's my understanding that clothes get the same amount of clean, but the regular wash cycle uses less water and energy than the rapid wash.

ETA: I should qualify that answer. I have a steam washer. My basic cycle is a steam cycle which reduces energy and water consumption. My quick wash cycle is not a steam cycle so it uses more energy/water. That's probably different if you don't use the steam option.  I was afraid I've had it backwards for the past 7 mos or so.  lol!

Now I have to go find the manual for mine. It has "quick" and "normal" and I thought the quick one took less water and energy, so that's what I've been using. Maybe I was wrong. Huh?

Update: found my manual already (shocking) - the quick cycle on mine uses the same amount of water and less energy. The time difference is only 7 minutes on mine though - 36 vs. 43 minutes. You can probably throw out my answer.
