alternative to toilet paper??

I was thinking today about how I use cloth pads and want to cloth diaper my children when I have them, and I was wondering if anyone on here uses anything other than toilet paper in an attempt to be more green....

any insights would be greatly appreciated.

thank you in advance.

Re: alternative to toilet paper??

  • It's called Family Cloth. I don't normally do it but I'm pretty sure some of the gals on the EFF board (eco-friendly family) board do it. You might try asking over there. I think the normal set up is to have cloth wipes in a basket in the bathroom and a wet bag next to the toilet so you can just pop them right in the wet bag when they're dirty. A wet bag is a bag that holds wet items. It's normally used for cloth diapering. I have one on the inside doorknob of my bathroom. It would be super easy to do family cloth with it.
  • I do family cloth.  What are you wondering about exactly?  It really is just like using toilet paper but you throw it in a wet bag instead of in the toilet and then wash it with your cloth pads and cloth diapers (when you have them).  Otherwise I just do them in a wash by themselves.  But it's really no biggie at all.

I honestly was just wondering if there were people out there who had an alternative. I had never thought of it before and found myself wondering what people do. I definitely think its something I can be on board with, but my H seems to be 100% against it.

    thanks for your insights.

  • Yeah, my H is 100% against it too.  He said he's willing to do a lot of green things, but Family Cloth isn't even an option.  He's made lots of other compromises though so I'm okay with that.

My H has nothing to do with my "pee rags," as he calls them.  I use them for #1, but not for #2.  It has saved us a TON of TP so far this year; I love it.

Same here. I divided the baby washcloths we got as shower gifts between me and DD. I use them as cloth wipes as well and wash with her diapers.
