Teach Tennesee - anyone done this program?
Just curious what your experience was with the program. I'll have a MBA in December and would like to teach business if there is a requirement for it. Everything I've read thus far says that they are mainly looking for teachers in the math and science.
Thanks!!

You may have a bit of trouble finding a job teaching business is high school--those programs get cut quite a bit.
You may want your state certification office to look over your transcript. Quite a bit of your business classes will count towards certification in Math. For example, stats, calculus, college algebra...........I have a marketing degree. I only needed to take a couple basic math classes to be certified to teach math. I taught accounting for a few years in addition to math.
I just finished up my 5th year as a high school business teacher (also a career changer). Business education is one of those subjects that will not be in high demand since there are always going to be career changers that are willing and qualified and the elective programs are constantly being cut. My department has been cut by over 50% since I started 5 years ago.
Those specialty programs for career changers are going to focus on the areas of high need - mostly math and science. You could always try to teach one of those subjects to get in and then see about changing later.
To get my foot in the door, my first teaching job was in math. I first got licensed to teach math, got a job very easily and taught math for a year. Once I had that experience, I was able to look for other jobs and landed a business job very quickly as well (I'm licensed in math, business and instructional technology). I'm glad I changed careers when I did because it's brutal right now trying to find a teaching job. We had an opening at my school this year in another subject and over 600 people applied for it. Career changers without experience had no shot at even getting an interview!
If you have any questions for someone who has been through it, feel free to PM me.
