Help me decide: Bangs/haircut

When DS was about 3 months old, I decided to cut my beautiful, long, curly locks off that pregnancy had given to me.  I got a bob.  I used to love my hair bobbed, but it was different this time around with a baby, working and styling my hair. It no longer fit in my lifestyle.

I'm at this wacked out length right now (just above my shoulders and not going an inch further, it seems) and my hair looks terrible because I haven't gotten it cut in about 9 months.  My hair is thick, kinda wavy/curly, and often frizzy.  I have used hair products but typically don't and I strive to not take a hairdryer to my hair (I do own one though and a flat iron).

I'm one of those girls that grows my hair out, then cuts it all off, grows it out, cuts it off.  Right now, I just need a haircut to tidy it up right now, but I am also wanting something different.  Bangs, I wonder?  I want them, I love them on other people but I am worried I'd hate them, that I'd have to style them...yet, I still want them.  Help me decide: yay or nay?

So here's a pic of me recently on a good hair day: image

And here's some style of bangs I've been thinking about...

Re: Help me decide: Bangs/haircut

  • If you have wavy/ curly hair, I would not do bangs.  I have wavy hair and the shortest I can go is an inch or two above my chin without getting cowlicked craziness or even the best cut going uneven.

  • Hmm, not sure bangs are the way to go if you don't want to use a hair dryer regularly. I have bangs and need to dry them every day. What about parting your hair on the side and pulling some of that hair across your forehead:

If you really like the idea of bangs and want to commit to styling, I like the wavy bob and bangs Kristen Wiig sports in Bridesmaids. It's similar to the hairstyle Jennifer Nettles from Sugarland has.

  • i love the style callatini posted and i agree, if you don't want to style them daily then bangs are not the way to go.

i have some wave to my hair and sideswept bangs that i have to hit with a flat iron or blow dryer most days. on days like this, i put my hair up and just worry about my bangs, it is just too hot and humid to bother with anything else with my frizz-prone hair. i can't PIP but this was taken at a wedding:

I got bangs a few months ago. I wore them for a couple weeks and have been clipping them back ever since. They were really cute and I got tons of compliments, but they are such a pain! I had to style them every day with a blow dryer, and then they started to get long so I had to trim them every week or two. I wish I hadn't gotten them; I'm just waiting for them to grow out now.

  • I just wanted to add that I have always had bangs of some sort - side swept, straight across, thick, light & wispy, etc. I don't think my face looks right without them. But I do have to blow dry every day even if it's only just for a minute. I rarely can get them looking good without this step. I also have to get them trimmed every 4-5 weeks. But I do love bangs (my current bangs below)

  • Ditto PP on styling the bangs.  I got bangs in May and I do love them, but I also need to style them with a blow dryer + roller brush if I want to look halfway decent.

Could you do choppy layers in your hair instead of bangs?  That would give it some definition.

  • Not sure how much you are looking to spend, but if you want to keep your curls but have shiny, non-frizzy hair that requires minimal upkeep, try a brazilian blowout.  They are awesome!!

  • I'd do the really choppy layers thing this hair cut and maybe have them thin your hair a bit if it's too thick?

If you're still contemplating bangs I'd say give it a shot in the fall when the heat/humidity is less oppressive. That's the first place I start sweating, bangs stick to my forehead, start going wonky, and about 90 seconds after going outside I'm digging through my purse for one of my millions of bobby pins to pull it back.
