Moving to the area..

Hey Virginia nesties! :)

After moving around the midwest the last few years for hubby's jobs, we are now branching out to the east!  My husband took a position where he will be working around winchester, va, martinsburg, wv, and hagerstown, md.  I am seeking any information about any of these areas that I can get!  I've lived in teh midwest all of my life, so this is completely new territory for me!  Any recommendations on where to live/where to avoid?  Thanks!

 Kris

Re: Moving to the area..

  • Welcome!  The Winchester area is sooooo beautiful 100% different from the MidWest.  At least the MW that I was familiar with. You have tons of trees, and mountains, and just wait until fall! I would find out which area he would be working in the most to decide where to settle down.  If he's going to be in Hagerstown a lot then commuting from Winchester is going to not be as fun.

  • Hello and welcome to the area! I live in the 81 corridor and I think it's such a hassle to travel.  There are so many trucks! So I wouldn't recommend commuting if you don't have to.  I am originally from a Pennsylvania town that was only about 25 minutes from Hagerstown, MD, so we went there a lot.  I really like it there.  As long as you stay out of the down town side, pretty much all around is beautiful.  And the shopping is fantastic! It's one of the things I miss about the area. If you aren't a shopper, there's tons of other stuff to around there too, lot's of state parks and places to hike and a lot of historical places such as battlefields.

I have been to Martinsburg, WV and Winchester, VA a good bit too and from what I can tell of it  I prefer Hagerstown MUCH better! Hope this helps you some! I only live an hour and a half away from Winchester and about two hours from Hagerstown.

  • Thanks for the feedback ladies!  I think my husband will spend equal time in all 3 cities, so the commute really isn't a factor.. either way he'll be commuting some!  I will probably not be seeking employment as we are hoping to try for baby #2 and alreadh have a little one. :)
