Ok....this might be extremely insensitive (I'm not trying to be at all), but I just don't get it....How is Amy Winehouse's family shocked by her death?  I mean, she always seemed to be in the news for hard drugs and alcohol, and in and out of rehab.  If I had a family member who was a serious drug/alcohol addict that died at a young age, I would be truly sad, but surprised or shocked they passed?.....probably not.  Maybe I'm missing part of the story?

  • I don't know, I think whne it comes to family sometimes it's harder to be objective.  Her family and friends probably always held out hope that she would kick the addictions.  I also think there is always some element of shock when someone so young dies, even if they were living a dangerous lifestyle.

  • I had such a lazy weekend.  I simply could not get motivated to do anything productive around the house.  Of course that means I'll be super busy this week because we're having company for the weekend.

With the exception of going to Saugatuck on Saturday evening to celebrate a friend's birthday, this was pretty much my weekend as well.

    Surprise

I love HP.  I even watched bits and pieces of the three movies ABC Family was showing yesterday (for the 500th time).  I have also considered re-reading the books for the second time this year (which would be my third time reading them).

In my defense, I did not wear a costume or anything HP themed when I attended the midnight show on opening night.

  • I'm sure you'll hear this a lot from me this week, but I cannot wait for Friday!

  • I really hope people show up for my blood drive on Wednesday.  I would love to be able to take next Monday off.

I am the same way.  I'm SO sad it is "over" now.  I've reread the entire series probably 5 times, and picked up the first book again last week :)

I can't wait until Ben is old enough to enjoy HP.  It's  magic will never wear off for me!

  • I've made Pioneer Woman's iced coffee twice now, and I am officially addicted.  Having it ready to go at any time in the fridge has doubled my coffee intake haha.

I came to HP fandom really late, but am so glad I did!

Do you think you could start reading HP1 to Ben starting next year?  Like a chapter a time before bed?  My mom used to read chapter books to me at a really young age.

I don't have anything specifically planned.  I'm not sure if I'll be going out with CWs or not.  I waver between wanting to get a chance to have drinks with everyone and just wanting it to be over.  Today I'm leaning towards low key, but who knows how I'll feel on Friday.

Now that I'm all in so to speak, I'm just ready to leave.

I finished my part of my last project just a minute ago.  My to-do list is quickly dwindling down to nothing.

  • I'm with freeburger and Diana, I love HP.

When the 7th book came out we had shirts made up.  One was black with white writing and said "I See Thestrals."  The other is blue with silver writing and says Official Member of the D.A.

So that is what we wore to the movie.  We've gone to the midnight showing off all the movies since Goblet of Fire.  Man, while waiting for the 7th book to come out H and a friend of mine had some great discussions about what could happen in the last book.  I'll miss those discussions.

We haven't found something else to discuss with as much passion yet.  Twilight just doesn't inspire discussions.  Stick out tongue

  • H and I are addicted to Words.  We sat next to each other in bed last night and played a whole game on our phones.  It's getting rediculous, but we're so competitive we can't stop.  Stick out tongue

I'll definitely start reading something to him, but I think he needs to be a lot older to enjoy HP.  That, and it gets rather dark and scary and I'd like him to sleep peacefully haha.  I'm thinking maybe Lemony Snicket's series of unfortunate events?  I read that a few years ago and loved them :)

LOL.  Sort of related...DH and I are addicted to watching Jeopardy every night and recording it if we can't for some reason.  We're nerds.

I have seen most of them at Midnight showings, and I love the energy and the silly costumes though I have not participated.  I saw a shirt online that I *REALLY* want though - "Make love, not horcruxes".  I'd totally rock that one!

L and I used to be really competitve with iJewels via GameCenter.  One of us would high score and the other would play incessantly to take the top spot.  A few months ago I laid the smack down with a killer score and L hasn't played since.  I call victory.

JKR is releasing the eBook versions soon.  I think Google is going to be the distributor.  I would suggest waiting for those and buying them for nook.  I'm betting that you'll like them so much you will want to re-read.

I currently own two complete sets of the books (one set is the UK paperback versions that L brought back from England, the other is a set of the US hardcovers that we bought at the HP theme park at Universal).  I'll be buying the eBooks as well.Embarrassed

    Yes

The only midnight showing we saw was DH part 2.  The best costume I saw was a guy dressed as Prof. Trelawney.  It was a good costume and to see a boy in it was great.  I also loved that it was a bit more obscure.

Oh you totally get the victory on that.

We started getting competitive in iJewels last night.  H asked, "Have you gotten past 4 x's?"  I looked down at the game I was currently playing and was up to 6 x's and still going strong.  I said, "Ummm yeah.  Look."  He switched back to Words immediately after that...lol.

Thanks for letting me know - that will be WAY better than lugging around those huge books.

  • I love HP too, but I'm not sure that I've seen all of the movies released prior to this year.  The books in my head are just so much better.

    Yes

My big thing is Scrabble and I'm really good.  So far no one I know IRL has been able to beat me (including L's aunt who is a HS English teacher).

So now I usually play Scrabble Blast which is faster paced and more exciting for me to play than regular Scrabble vs. the computer.

We don't have DVR anymore, but when we did, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune were one of maybe 5 shows we recorded.  If we are home, we always try to watch. :-)

The books are much better, no doubt.  But I do think the HP movies are one of the best book-movie adaptations.  I think this is of particular note since turning those books into movies was no small task, especially as the books got longer.

  • PS - Good Morning!  We had a busy, but fun weekend.  Ann Arbor was great - we went in Thursday night and visited 4 new breweries.  Woke up early on Friday and went for a long leisurely bike ride before hitting one more new brewery pre-BeerFest.  And this was officially the best BeerFest I've ever attended - we had a fantastic time.  We would have gone to Saturday too, but had to come back for a wedding (which was lovely and fun).

Next year, we're planning far ahead so we can go to both days. :-)
