10 Year HS Reunion? (Clicky Poll)

So my 10 year high school reunion is in a little over a month (it's the Saturday of Labor Day weekend).  I am completely torn as to whether I should go or not.  I'd like to see a few friends, but here are my problems with going...

- It's in my home town (of course), which is a drive of about 3 hours each way, and would require a hotel room overnight.  There is one option for a hotel (a Best Western) and it's not nice.

- It's $15 per couple to get in.  I think they're just doing appetizers and I know it's a cash bar.

- We have baseball tickets the next day at noon, so even if we stay overnight, we would have to get up super early to get back in time to go to the game

- DH's parents may be in town (they're going with us to the baseball game), so if they are, I don't want to just ditch them.

- DH and I didn't grow up near each other so he literally knows no one and he's not interested in going (he would go with me if I want to, though).

So, what do you think??

Re: 10 Year HS Reunion? (Clicky Poll)

  • I say skip it- People aren't even INTERESTING until the 20 year!
  • I voted no but I wanted to ask do you know for sure the friends you want to see will even be there. That would be a big factor in if or not I would go. If it's likely that they won't be there then I stand by my no. If they will be and you reaaaaaaaally want to see them and it's likely that's the only way to see them for a long time then i'd be more on the fence.

  • I voted no. With Facebook, I see very little reason to go to my reunion this year...I already know everything I need to know about the people I care about.

They sent out an e-vite, so I can see who has RSVP'd yes or no.  A few of my really close friends will be there because they RSVP'd yes right away.  Several of them still live in my hometown so I don't think they would skip it.

  • I had to look and make sure you didnt go to school with me. My 10 year reunion is the same weekend. I was looking forward to going, until I found out it was Labor day weekend. I would have to fly to mine and they plan tickets are REALLY high around that time. I voted no. I think it's crazy to do a reunion any holiday weekend.

  • Yeah, that's a tough one. From what you described about it, I'd say no though.

  • I voted No... Not because it's a waste of time and money, but simply because you have too many other conflicts of interest going on.  If anything causes me that much stress or aggravation over, then I just skip it.

There will be other opportunities to see people.  If not, there is always facebook or other social networking sites.

  • I'm with Karma.  My HS has had them every 5 years.  I went to 5, 10, 20 and 25.  5 was awful, 10 was marginally better, 20 was fun and 25 was a blast.  My 35th is in August and I am not going.  My parents are in the town and it is just too much drama right now...
My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!
  • MuffinsMom, I was hoping you'd respond! As someone who has had several reunions, I wanted your opinion. I'm definitely thinking no now. I've asked co-workers, friends, and you guys and not 1 person said I should go! Maybe I'll wait until the next one. Besides, everyone I know is having babies right now and I'm not in to babies so I'd rather not fake interest for a few hours, haha!

  • I voted yes.  I went to mine about 2 weeks ago and was REALLY on the fence about going.  My best friends were not attending (live far away) and the thought of seeing ex-boyfriends was giving me an ulcer.  But I went....wore a cute dress and dressed up my husband in a new pretty shirt.  Our reunion was at a terrible location and they only "advertised" on FB, so a lot of people did not attend.  And even though there were only about 70 people there, I was really glad I went.  I saw people who I had not seen since High School, even though I talk to a lot of people on FB.
  • In case anybody really cares... it's official, I'm not going.  DH looked up a hotel room and they're already full for that Saturday night.  I don't understand how they could be full - it's a rinky dink little country town, so I don't know who would be staying there - but whatever.

Your opinions definitely helped me feel ok about this decision, so thanks!  I found out recently that 2 of my friends that still live there aren't even going, so who knows if I would have gotten to see more than 1 or 2 people I cared about seeing.

    Thanks again! :)
