Help Wanted: Ajuga Issues (PIP)

My ajuga (Caitlin's Giant, Black Scallop & Chocolate Chip) was doing very well until about 10 days ago. Now it's wimpy, very soft to the touch and the leaves easily come off. Is this crown rot?

I asked the landscape architect who suggested that I put it in and she told me to water it everyday. She lives in my neighborhood but hasn't stopped by to see it in person. I feel like if anything, watering makes it worse.

Should I dig it up, add some organic material then replant them? I have thick clay soil so maybe it's not draining properly.

Other info: the ajuga is planted under a magnolia tree & I live in zone 6A.

I appreciate any suggestions/advice.image
