DH and I live in NOVA and currently attend Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Georgetown. I like the church but I would like to switch off w/a Protestant Church (I'm not Catholic).
Anyone have recommendations? We prefer a more traditional worship style (hymns, not power points). On the other hand, I'm not really into recitations and rote prayers. Overall, I most interested in finding a strong church w/a good crosscut of generations (not just people over 60) and an intellectual bend. I used to attend a Baptist Church in NJ that had a pretty modern worship but I was willing to attend b/c the pastor was phenomenal. And so were the parishioners.
I'm thinking Episcopal would be a good match. But like I said, I'm open to trying strong Protestant churches of any denomination.
TIA!
Re: Protestant Church Recommendations
I would try Capitol Hill Baptist Church...it's Southern Baptist, but it's a huge church and has a LOT younger members on average than most SBC churches. Here is their website: http://www.capitolhillbaptist.org/
It's right in DC, which might be a little annoying for you since you live in NoVA, but since you're going to a church in Georgetown anyway it might be worth it to try it out. HTH!
Try National City Christian Church. It's very liberal/open but also does mostly traditional hymns, has a pretty strong young adults group, has a terrific pastor, and is in a beautiful setting. It's on Thomas Circle.
We are not frequent church goers but I have enjoyed the services and people at Christ Church in Old Town. The minister was Kelly's mom on 90210 :-)
The Episcopal service is very similar to the Catholic service and this church is traditional but they also seem to have a good mix of ages and do community projects and stuff.
