I haven't been on the board in a while, but DH and I went to a Returning Warrior Workshop this past weekend and I really want to recommend it to anyone who is able to attend one.
DH is a reservist and was recalled (he did AD for 10 yrs) in Jan. 2010 for a 14 mo deployment, so it has only been a few months since his return. There were sailors and soldiers who had returned a month ago, as well as some who had been home for over a year.
The workshops are held quarterly and in a variety of locations. We live in NY and drove to the one in Vermont. Everything is included on orders (hotel stay, meals and as long as the SM fills out a TDY travel claim even mileage is paid for).
It was great to be able to meet so many new people, share experiences and really honor the sailors/soldiers as well as their family members. The workshops and small group discussions were really nice as well and focused on reconnecting, recognizing and coping with stress, feelings of guilt, wanting to go back, and just reintegrating in general. Most of the facilitators and staff were Mil. or Mil Spouses as well, so that was nice.
Here is a link to the info. and feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
