f/u Walnut Creek housing post
DH and I are also looking at moving to WC--more specifically, the Heather Farms HOA area (across from John Muir)...we like the townhomes and it seems like there are some in our price range...
Does anyone know anything re: the area? It feeds into Northgate High School (Bancroft Elementary, I can't remember the middle school)...
Of course we'd love for our hypothetical children to be in the Acalanes District, but financially I'm not sure that's ever going to happen if we want to own...

Re: f/u Walnut Creek housing post
It would be helpful to know where you guys work/go to school so we can comment on commutes.
I don't know anything about those townhomes specifically. The area in general is nice, safe and pretty quiet. You're close to some basics like restaurants, grocery store, drug store, etc. over there. You're also about a mile and a half from downtown WC which offers even more restaurants, great shopping, movie theater, etc. And you're near Heather Farms park which has a lot to offer.
The only downside is that you'd have to battle the traffic on Ygnacio Valley Road if you need to get to and from the freeway, downtown Walnut Creek, etc. during busy times. It's only about 2 miles from the John Muir area, but it can take a while during rush hour.
I'm pretty sure the middle school for that area is Walnut Creek Intermediate (I'm an alum! And I didn't turn out so bad) though I could be wrong and it might be Foothill? Don't know anything about that one. Bancroft is a decent school from what I know about it; my best friend's mom teaches there too and she's awesome
thank you, SM! We work in Oakland, so I'm not concerned re: the commute...and BART is always an option.
thank you for the input--it helps a lot!
I had a lot of friends at Northgate that lived in the area. It's a nice area since it backs up to Heather Farms and the whole canal trail area. The canal trails are nice since it's a nice way to get through the town without walking down big busy streets. You can get to Bancroft Elementary, Pleasant Hill BART and downtown through the canals. If you're really ambitious you can take the Iron Horse Trail all the way down to Danville.
I agree that the downside is that the one way in and out is YV, but I'm sure you'll get used to it and figure out the timing of the traffic.
the traffic can be nightmarish along YV Rd during commute hrs since that's the main feeder to 24/680 for everyone coming from Concord/Clayton. another thing .. not sure if you're that far up the hill from Heather Farms but the area does have the nickname of "Poo Hill" b/c of the awful sewage smell that sometimes is very apparent. there's one stretch of YV Rd right by JM that if you get there at the wrong time .. the smell is horrid.
you can't go wrong w/ WC schools ... GL !
Commuting to Oakland won't be easy from there... You've got traffic on YV Road from that area to 24, then the Tunnel back-ups. I'd definitely opt for BART if it's at all possible. You'll still need to deal with YV Road traffic to get to Walnut Creek BART from that area but not the rest of the traffic.
Good luck!
We currently live in Lafayette, so I am very familiar with the 24/tunnel
Now to figure out/conquer YV Road!
Thank you all for the advice!
Got it! Sorry, there was another post from someone living in Alameda talking about moving to WC. I got them confused...
totally understandable! I only thought to even ask since the other poster mentioned moving to WC
I didn't realize so many Nesties were familiar with the area...for some reason I always get the vibe that most people are in the South Bay or Tri-Valley areas (or Sacramento)...
We're kind of all over the place
Also, there are quite a few people (like me) who don't live there now but did in the past and are familiar with the area. Hope you find a great place!

I'm in that school district.
We live off of Ygnacio/Walnut Ave. (Not Walnut Blvd)
YV is not timed during the commute, it's actually metered for the onramp to 24/680, so ya, the morning commute can be killer. I usually opt to head towards treat Blvd since those lights are timed.
The area itself is wonderful. I love heather farms, and all the amenities and it's so family oriented. Northgate isn't quite as nice as Acalanes, but it was better than the other Mt. Diablo district schools, so we're happy.
Best of luck to you!
