Birthday ideas.

DH's birthday is coming up soonish, and I'm trying to figure out what I can get him. I personally like all the sentimental romantic stuff and he likes to remind me "hes a man". But anything he needs he buys it, anything he wants he buys it. I thought about making a video with his friends and family, he gets R&R soon and his Bday is days after he goes back. I'm just not sure if a "man" will enjoy such a sentimental gift. I'm open to suggestions and feedback.

Re: Birthday ideas.

  • I suggest you get him something HE will like - not what you would like.  If he doesn't like sentimental stuff then don't get him sentimental stuff.

What does he complain about while he's deployed?  Get something to fix it.

Ie. My bed's too hard.  Send him a memory foam mattress topper.

Ie.  The food sucks.  Send him food he likes.

Ie.  I'm bored.  Send him a video game or box of DVD's.

Or, figure out what he's looking forward to when he gets home and send him something to remind him.  Ie.  If he's looking forward to football season, send him stuff from his favorite team.

My final suggestion is cupcakes.  http://www.anasedibles.com/

  • What do you typically do for his birthday when he's home? Because I'd probably send him some cake with the icing in a separate container. I'd add some candles, a handful of balloons, a sappyish card, and a "coupon" that promised not to see a specific movie he's looking forward to until he gets home and you can watch it together.

But this is because I always make him a cake, give him a card, and go out to the movies with mr man on his birthday.

  • Zack is getting hard to shop for but I've gotten him a Tempurpedic pillow (it was like $120 but they are sooo worth it and he always stole mine lol), a bluray player, xbox 360, cologne, and his most recent gift was a Suunto watch. His birthday was about a month and a half before he deployed and Suunto is like unbreakable and makes military styled watches. They all have different features and I actually learned about them from another military wife. He really loves it. If you want to send him some cake during deployment, try making "cake in a jar" and send the tub of icing separate.

    Photo bomb, yeah!
  • I never fail with games - scrabble, darts, poker chips, settler of catan, corn hole or tv series on DVD - it's always sunny, mad men, dexter. he just got an iPad so i'm thinking this year I'll make it easy and get an iTunes gift card so he can down load music and movies.
  • My husband is not sentimental in the least, so I always get him practical gifts. The trick is to anticipate what he wants before he knows he wants it! I've gotten really good at that lol.

I would not give your H a sentimental gift. It's not going to mean as much to him as it would mean to you.
