which formula do you use? The nurse at our pedi's office said that enfamil and similac are the same thing. she said its like drinking hood milk and garelick farms milk. Which do you use. We used similac with dd #1when i switched from bf'ing to formula. I know that there was a recall back in nov on the similac.

they're similar, but not the same. I get really irked when people say that, and for no good reason really.

All formulas need to meet the same requirements for nutritional value, so in *that* respect, they're the same - just like good start & all the store brands are the same too. 

Similac is the only baby formula on the market (name or store brand) that does not contain palm oil. I used similac w/J and we us it during hospital stays with N, but I use target brand for N at home.

I think that you should just stick with whatever is working.  I wouldn't switch from one to the other randomly because they send you a coupon or anything.   It took me about 4 formulas before I found one that worked for Ella.

At first we had one on similac and one on enfamil because that's what they had gotten at the hospital.  We eventually switched to similac for the first couple of months after 3 months we switched to Sam's club brand.

Ben started on Similac, and around 4 months old I switched to Members' Mark (Sam's Club Brand) and saved myself a sh!t ton of money for the next 8 months. Just as the name brands have to meet the same standards, so do generics. I highly, highly recommend that once your child is around 12-16 weeks old, you look at generic formula. Exact same thing for a LOT less money. Even with coupons.

I was going to type almost the same thing as this. Our ped told us that it was ok to bounce back and forth and they were so wrong.  We also ended up using good starts gentle formula.

My pedi didn't recommend switching to a generic brand formula until at least 6 months when the baby's digestive system is more mature. All formulas have the same nutrients however, the additives are not the same, so one brand may affect your child differently than another. I am a big fan of the gentle formulas with partially broken down milk proteins.  There was a big research study done that suggested that children that are fed partially broken down milk proteins are less likely to be overweight, than those that are not, and they also reduce the amount of gas the child has.  I've had good luck with Enfamil Gentlease with Owen, and I also used the same for Domenic, but switched Dom over the the Target brand Gentle formula when he was 6 months old. I tried the Target brand with Owen, but it made him very constipated. This just shows that every kid is different.  Find what works for your child and stick with it.
