dusting-is it necessary to...
dust your baseboards/trim, baseboard radiators and perimeter of the ceiling every week? When we moved into our house, the previous owner never cleaned or dusted which creeped/grossed me out, so I am not sure if I am going overboard or not?
Re: dusting-is it necessary to...
Who in the hell has that kind of time?
Sorry that was my initial reaction.
In truth, I do baseboards/trim a couple times per season. I never knew people were obsessive about baseboard cleaning until the nest. Mine either a) aren't that dirty b) I just don't care.
As for the radiators/vents, when I sweep the floors I tend to just swipe the broom over them.
I do the ceiling when I see cobwebs.
I thought I might get that reaction!
I have seen some of the cleaning schedules other Nesties use and that was included on it. I have been doing it for a while myself, but I sometimes wonder if it is a waste of time (and I dread doing it each week) or if it is worth it. I guess I just remember how dusty and gross (the guy smoked and never dusted, let the ash from the cigarettes fall where they may, etc) the place was when we moved in and that tends to over motivate me a bit I think.
We don't have baseboard radiators and I (shamefully) have never cleaned the ceilings.
Edit: I do clean them more now than I did in our old apartment. We have hardwood floors (used to have carpets) and I keep complaining that it seems to get dirty faster and so I'm sweeping more often and noticing dust on the baseboards.

Everyone welcome.
I had that situation too, older house and the dust was like an encrusted shell on the baseboards and trim, and it was about 3 months of just chipping at it for a couple minutes at a time (I heart the flylady approach!) I guess I was tackling it a couple times a week, just whenever I had a wet rag from something else on its way to the hamper, it got one more rinse at the sink and scrubbed a few more feet of baseboard. But now I just microfiber one room a week, so that by the end of 2 months, everything has been done at least once, I guess? It we're expecting anyone to come over, it's no biggie then to fly through the first floor of the house and just quickie wipe the baseboards so they're not dusty.
