The other teacher threads made me curious:
*How much decorating do you do in your classroom?
*Where do you buy your decorating supplies?
*What have you/will you buy this summer?

Not a ton because I'm in middle school, but enough to make sure the room doesn't look bare.

Fabric for my bulletin boards
*I don't decorate that much. I usually put up some of the same things each year. I moved this year and threw some behind though. I like the boards to reflect our learning so usually put up student work and anchor charts we make together. All I have to do before school is put up paper and border.
*I've only used Mardel's and the local teacher stores. I'm thinking about ordering some online this year.
*I need new border and name plates. Maybe some blank charts (well with just a cute decoration around it)?
I do quite a bit of decorating. This year will be the most I've done as I've adopted a "theme." My room will be all travel themed stuff so I've got flags from different countries, postcards, suitcases, etc.
I usually like to shop at Michaels, Joann's, teacher stores, Dollar Tree, Craigslist, my mom (she's been teaching for 35 years).
I've purchased pretty much everything related to my travel theme. I picked up some cute fabric today for the bulletin boards that I'll put up tomorrow. I had to get a few new picture frames and posters.
DH hopes I'm finished buying school stuff, but I probably won't be until a couple weeks into the year, depending on how many kids I need to buy supplies for.
I posted on the other post about the Dollar Tree for borders (which I think you saw). But, I was at Target today and they had cute borders, too. They were $2.50 and they were on an end-cap by the regular school supply aisle (not the special back-to-school section). I got a cute set of "Welcome Back" window clings from that section since my classroom window is right next to the entrance.
Kristen- I saw what you were looking for on the other board and it kinda made me think of what I was looking for. I ended up getting black and white polka dot border that I'll use on all 3 of my boards with different colored paper behind each one.
I also got some blank posters- one with a red and white polka dot border, one blue and white, one green and white. This isn't the exact one I got- mine doesn't have the lines, but you get the idea.
I'm sticking with simple because my classroom kinda has some crazy colors going on too. I got one board up today and it looks pretty cute I think.
I just found all of that stuff at the local teacher store. I think you can order online from that same store (with the links I included above). Good luck!

*What have you/will you buy this summer? So far I bought a window cling that spells out "Welcome Back." I don't plan to buy too much else to decorate. I probably have more than plenty in my closet at school as it is.I need to go to Dollar Tree and Target now. I have a trip planned to Mardel's tomorrow so we'll see what I need after that.
I'm glad I was able to enable you. I love all your choices! The charts are exactly what I was looking for! I'm in love with polka dots now.
Dollar tree all the way for borders... just get a few extra than what you think you need b/c if you run out, it's hard to find the same ones... I found some good ones with Presidents and for Social Studies....
I do vocabulary walls and a lot of content-oriented decorations, but not a lot of decor... I teach 12th grade after all. I also like to post inspirational quotes.
I freakin' love Dollar Tree teacher supplies...the borders, dye cut letters, cute animal posters to go up high in those spots where you don't want to bother getting up on the ladder to hang student work, and I even found these little countdown charts for "test coming" and "vacation" that are really fun to use!
My room isn't super decorated on the first day, but Open House I feel is truly a work of art. Wanna see? I have pics.
These are like "Flat Stanley" projects if you're familiar with those...
Heart maps for our writer's workshop poetry unit (shuttles and space travel brochures are underneath)
Space address books and solar system foil art. More travel brochures and shuttles on low table (I lowered the legs and just use pillows... no clunky chairs)
Jackson Pollock art projects, writing binders, etc.
It always makes me feel sad to take all of the work down a couple weeks later for the end of school
I won't buy much in regards to "decorations." The philosophy of our district administration --which I do agree with -- is "less is more." There is a push to not have much up on the walls -- little if anything commercially purchased. Also, bulletin boards are expected to be student work, dated (not more than a month old) and standards identified. There is a belief that a lot of things decorating a room can be very distracting for students with ADHD and English Language Learners -- both of which we have a lot of in our district.
I may replace the fabric on one board if I find something I like on clearance -- otherwise I do not think I will get anything else in regards to decorations. I have plenty of boarders and don't change them much. We do not get any sort of room budget so if we want anything beyond pencils, crayons and glue sticks it comes out of our own pocket.
I shop at Staples and Dollar Tree. We do not have any teachers' stores here -- but that may be a good thing because I'd go overboard.
