UCF 5 Miler

I am so excited because I ran the UCF 5 miler this morning and beat my goal by a few minutes.  I finished it in 41:37!  (8:18 min miles)

Just wanted to share because when I started running I couldn't run 3 miles without walking and now I am able to run 5 miles!

I remember a post about some of the girls training for a 5K so good luck and hopefully this helps with motivation!

Re: UCF 5 Miler

  • Awesome, that time is very good! That is a wonderful accomplishment.

What is your training schedule like? DH and I are training for the Disney half marathon in January and we're only up to 4 mile runs right now.

  • I run three times a week on a treadmill a minimum of of a 5k.  Every couple weeks I increase my constant speed and the last half mile I always up it about 0.5 mph so I can get myself used to picking it up at the end of the race.  I don't run outside as often as I should.  Anytime I do run outside I do it early in the morning because I notice the heat of the afternoon really slows me down.  Most of the runs start at 7:30 anyways.

I notice I run faster in the races probably because of adrenaline.

Good luck with the half marathon! That is great I can't wait to get to that level!

  • Ok ladies...all of your marathon talk (not to mention my ass growing by the day!) has motivated me to start doing the C25K! I AM starting on Tues and my goal is to run the RDV Reidneer Run on 12/13. I am not nor have I ever been a runner, but I am actually excited about this! Should I give myself a few weeks before I sign up for the 5k or should I just do it and hope that it keeps me going knowing Im already signed up? Have I mentioned that I can barely WALK to my car without losing my breath???! I am probably kidding myself thinking I can do this, but what the hell...it makes me feel good just thinking about it!!!
  • I have been running on a regular basis for about two years and have been doing 5k's for about 5 (even if I was walking them).

As far as the reindeer run I say sign up for because it will be motiviation plus you can walk the whole thing if you aren't ready to run it and it's not a big deal.  You will feel great even if you only walk it plus you get a shirt =)

I am signing up for the Turkey Trot which is a really fun run on Thanksgiving morning.  They don't give you the chip to clock your time because it isn't as serious of a 5k.  That is a great one for anyone who is just starting.  I walked it with my mom one year.  There are runners of all different levels plus you feel great before you eat all that food.

  • I did it! I'm all signed up for the Reindeer Run on 12/13. I'm starting the C25K tomorrow morning. I don't know why, but I am SOOOO excited!!! I think I just feel motivated to have a goal/plan. Of course I haven't even attempted to run yet, but who cares...I'm still pumped!

  • Good for you! I am registered for the RDV 5K too, so i'll see you there! That one is not championchip scored either, its a more laid-back race, and you can walk it too.... Good luck with your run today - you will do great!
