Junk Mail ?

I'm trying to cut down on the volume of mail we received and that we don't want/need. We always shred the crap we get but over the past couple of months, I've started calling the companies we're receiving mail from and having them remove our address/name from their mailing list. It's time consuming, but so far, it's definitely helped.

Just curious as to what you guys do with junk mail? Do you keep tossing it/shred it? Do you call the companies?

Re: Junk Mail ?

  • With credit card applications I write something to the effect of "please remove me from your mailing list".  I send it back in their pre-paid envelope and they hate that because they have to pay for it.  It has definitely cut down on our credit card apps mail.

One of my ex bf's mom's used to do this lol. She'd cram everything they sent her into that pre-paid envelope, even the envelope it all came in!

That sounds like it'd be less time-consuming than calling every where.

My Uncle does something similar, except he mixes up all his junk mail and sends it back to different companies in the prepaid envelopes.  He says he is keeping the postal system in business. :)

That is too funny!  It doesn't stop you from getting junk though because they don't know who the crap came from.

  • I think this is a great idea.  Have to start doing it!

  • Re: the credit card apps- if you open up the letter, there is a number somewhere on there that you can call and it will opt you out of ALL credit card offers, with the exception of companies you already do business with or have an account with.  You'll have to do it separately for you and H, but we did it a few years ago and it has SIGNIFICANTLY cut down on our volume of mail.  Just FYI!

That's a great idea. I do that for some stuff that comes to work, but for some reason... we'll just call it a brain fart... I've never thought to do that at home.
