lurker with a ? about borax

i'm wondering how to best to use borax in my FL washer.  when i use oxiclean, i just put it in the drum before loading the clothes (since that's what the package says to do).

i've tried adding the borax to the detergent slot, but it just gets clogged up.  i've also tried dissolving the borax in water and adding that to the liquid detergent, but i don't know how much of it to use to make the solution (nor how much of the solution i should then be adding!)

any suggestions?

TIA

Re: lurker with a ? about borax

  • I mix a small amount in a water bottle with hot water, shake to mix, and pour it into the liquid detergent spot. I don't measure, but I would guess 1/4 cup of powder.

  • Hi, I'm a fellow new-to-and-in-love-with-washing soda/borax person too.  It won't hurt your clothes by being in direct contact with them like a nasty bleach would.  I say a quarter to half cup of the stuff as you're putting in laundry.  If you want to really make sure it's mixed in, maybe add it half-way through stuffing your clothes in, or otherwise, per PoPP, just toss it on top of the clothes once they're in.  I still have an old top loader, but I think we're getting a FL in 2 months...  whee.
