Ocean City Recs

DH and I are planning to take a day trip to OC this weekend. We've never been so I don't know where to start. We would like to relax on the beach for a bit. Grab some lunch and a beer...then just play it by ear. I would love any recs on great places to eat (we love steaks, burgers and seafood), parking. Also, if you know of any other decent beaches that may not be as crowded, we're definitely up for that :-) TIA!

I lived in the area for a few years. I'd definitely recommend Fishtales on 21st Street for your meal. It's bayside, but worth crossing Coastal Highway, and the atmosphere is great. 

Ocean City beaches are always crowded this time of year. For a cleaner, less crowded beach, you can go to Assateague, about 8 miles south, but it's a national park, so you have to pay to enter. However, if you go to the national park, dogs are allowed and you can drink on the beach!

I would reccomend the state beach in Fenwick DE. It's practically in northern OC but it has great facilities like bathrooms and concessions which are few and far between in OC itself. It's like $6 to get in (for the car). Umbrella and chair rentals are available as well. I won't go to the OC beaches anymore after going there. As for food, I wouldn't bother with a restaurant. There are too many must haves on the OC boardwalk to go to a restaurant and pay for an over priced mediocore meal. There are some decent restaurants down there but nothing i would waste time on if I were taking a daytrip. I would head right to the boardwalk. Park at the very end at the inlet and make your way up the boardwalk. Get some thrashers fries (can't miss it you will see the line). Grab a slice of pizza or a hot dog at pollock johnnies. Softserve ice cream from kohr brothers or dumpsers milk shakes. Fishers caramel popcorn, to die for good-I love it fresh and warm. You can ride the ferris wheel for a great view or just walk up the boardwalk to take it all in. Definitely walk up to the kite loft to see the kites they have flying. If you are tired from all that food and wallking the tram can give you a ride back down the boardwalk. I think the boardwalk is awesome and definitely shouldn't be missed. There is something charming about it even though it's usually full of obnoxious teenagers and is definitely full of junk shops. Seaside country store in fenwick has the best fudge on the shore IMO and is worth a stop.
