Book recommendations needed please

Hey ladies!  I have some spare time the remainder of the summer before school starts back up and am looking for some good books to read.  I really enjoy mysteries and romantic books.  Any suggestions?

Surprisingly my mom has gotten me into Diane Chamberlain books lately. And I've really enjoyed them. I also blew through the Sookie Stackhouse book series and that was really good too. (I thought it was going to be just like twilight and suck...but IMO it doesn't).

  • Glad you posted bc i love romance novels too but I haven't read a good one in sooo long.

I have read Hunger Games trilogy which I think is going to be a huge popular movie (just like Twilight). I read the trilogy before it was popular...

Water for Elephants was of course good. Haven't seen the movie yet..

I'm still steadily reading "The Book Thief" which has been really hard for me to get through since it is written poetic like

  • Have you read Ten Little Indians by Agatha Christie?  That's a good mystery.

A few years back I read a series of mysteries with a detective named Agatha Raisin (if you just search Agatha Raisin you will find the titles) they were easy reads.

In Cold Blood  by Truman Capote is a good true crime novel.  I've been reading a lot of true crime and science books for work this summer, so I don't have a lot of recommendations in the romance or mystery department.

  • Linda Howard's "Mr Perfect" has a lot of thriller/mystery, plus a little romance. It's one of my favorites. "The Help" (Kathrine Stockett) also springs to mind, but that's neither romance nor mystery - just a really good book.

"Look Again" by Lisa Scottoline was good - kept me reading til 2 in the morning or until Zach would yell 'are you coming to bed YET?!'

I just read The Silent Hour by Michael Koryta which I really liked and thought was an easy read.  Per the reviews on amazon, his other books were better (I've never read anything else by him), so maybe just search for books by him.

This isn't romantic or a mystery but I just finished "Looks" by Madeleine George yesterday and liked that a lot as well.  It's meant to be a teen lit book but I picked it up for $1.99 at Ollies and figured I'd give it a shot.  It turned out to be pretty good and had a good meaning behind it.

Romance books I'd recommend anything by Nicholas Sparks.  I've read all of his novels and have only not liked a couple of them.  The last one I read was Safe Haven which I couldn't put down.

  • I got completely sucked into the Bride Quartet series by Nora Roberts. It's definitely typical cheesy romance but its about 4 friends who own a bridal business where they do weddings and each is responsible for cake, flowers, photos, and planning. it's definitely an interested read having been the bride before.
  • I'm really loving Emily Giffin's books; so far I've read Something Borrowed, Something Blue, and Baby Proof and have loved all three.  Teen paranormal romance (aka vampire romance books) are my guilty pleasure and I just finished the Vampire Academy series and loved it.  It is by far the best of the vampire books IMO.

There's five Emily Giffin books actually, the other two, Love the One You are With and Heart of the Matter, are on my to read list.  I love how she works in old characters into her books... Ethan makes an appearance in Baby Proof.
