Could this jeopardize a potential job?
I am currently volunteering with a mental health agency while looking for a new job (I quit my last one). This MHA was recently contacted by a talk show that will be starting up in the fall, and they/the director want me to appear on a taping of the show and provide advice/very basic information about therapy and do a basic assessment of whatever issues are being faced by that day's guests. One the one hand, I think it would be kind of cool. One the other hand, I'm afraid that it could in some way hurt me in finding a new job--I would imagine when they do a background check, it would come up--but I don't know if it would be a bad thing?? I currently have a 2nd interview lined up for a position I really want at a different agency, and I don't want to do this show if it could harm the possibility of me getting that job. Am I being silly? Is there any chance that appearing on this show could hurt my job search?

I've run background checks on people and that's not the kind of information they turn up. A background check will show you police records, address/education history, judgements against you, things that are legally documented somewhere.
Now a google search, that might turn it up and many HRs will now do these as well. But unless you are going on Jerry Springer or the episode is titled something like "I'm insane but refuse to commit myself!" I'm sure you're fine. I bet it would be more an ice breaker than anything.
Ok, thanks everyone! The director of the mental health agency said that he made sure that there would be no plate throwing or stripper poles or anything mildly like Jerry Springer...so I think it should be ok in that respect.
As for the other agency...I don't know how traditional/not traditional they are. The position would be working with kids in foster care, which for some reason (probably completely off the wall) makes me feel like they would maybe frown upon something like this? But it seems like everyone is telling me that's not true...so maybe I should just do it? If I can get over my stage fright/fear of public speaking, that is.
