"Pruning" border lilies
I planted some border lilies (an asiatic type) last year along the front path. They didn't get far last year, but this year they really came up -- TOO up. My 12-18" lilies are now 36" tall and blooming beautifully. They are too tall for where they are.
My question is: Early next spring, before buds are set, is it possible to pinch or prune the top of the lily stalk so the plants will have more, shorter stalks? Or would this prevent flowering?
Re: "Pruning" border lilies
I grow lilies and this is the first time I've ever seen this question. I have never seen anything on any lily sites that states you can prune a stalk to keep the flowering height low. What happened to you has happened to me as well. I purchased some orange lilies thinking that they would only get about 3ft. Instead, it grew well over 4ft! I just moved the bulbs in the fall.
You may have to just relocate your bulbs. I'll keep researching to see if I can find an answer for you.
