Pet Friendly Places

I was wondering if you ladies knew of any pet friendly places to go whether they are parks, or campgrounds or hotels or restaurants in the area.

I know that there are a few dog parks:

at Jacobson Park in Lexington.  It is ok, but not a lot of seating or shade. There isn't any water available there, but there is a creek and some nice places to walk the dog outside of the leash free area.

at Masterson Station Park. I really like this one because there is usually a good assortment of dogs. It is bigger than Jacobson Park, there is a doggie water fountain and trees to be under for shade

at the City County Park in Nicholasville. It is small and has a separate area for large or small dogs. Not a lot of shade, not water source, there usually aren't a lot of other dogs there

There is also some camping areas at the Natural Bridge/ Red River Gorge area that are dog friendly.

Re: Pet Friendly Places

  • I've had great luck on www.vrbo.com and www.homeaway.com finding vacation lodging that is pet-friendly.

  • I've used homeaway before. I really like that site.

  • There's a dog park on Wellington (off Clays Mill). We haven't officially gone there, but we've passed it a few times and it seems nice.

I've read that Half-Price Books in Hamburg (in Lexington) allows pets, but I haven't verified this myself.

Also, I enjoy taking my guy to The Bluegrass Barkery. It's a dog supply store and they make their own treats.

  • I think my mom has bought stuff from the barkery before. The treats always smell really good.

I don't know if I mentioned it before or not, but babycakes cupcakes off of richmond rd does all natural doggy cupcakes. We got some for our wedding.

  • There actually is a water fountain at the far right corner of Jacobson park, although Masterson station is still my favorite too! About any restaurant with outdoor seating will be okay with dogs. We're originally from Austin, TX, which is super dog friendly, so we were so excited to see so many dog parks when we moved to Lexington! If you guys ever want to get together for a play date, let me know!
