Cloth diaper PIP

After using CD's for over 1.5 years I decided to make one of my own.  All of the diapers I normally use are pockets but the one I made is an AIO.  I used PUL on the outside, a microfleece liner, and flannel & terry cloth as the soaker.  The topstich I did leaves a little to be desired, and it needs more snaps (so expensive).  Next time I will probably do velcro.

  • That looks great!  Your elastic came out a lot better than the one I posted yesterday. :P

  • That's awesome! Good work. Have you tried it out yet?
  • Thanks!  yes!  I've used/washed it 3 times so far.  It's much more wrinkly looking now that it's been dried (even though I pre-washed the fabrics), but it washed well (in that it didn't fall apart and it doesn't stink).  I'm quite happy with it!  I plan to experiment more with my own cloth diapers.  The one thing I like most about this diaper with snaps is that my little one can't rip it off (like she does all. the. time. with velcor)

    Nice job!

The pearl snap ARE expensive (although they look nice); why not just use the regular snaps (same but without pearl head)?

If where you shop is anything like my local Jo-Ann Fabrics, their snap selection is veeery limited.

well, i felt like my Joann's had a nice selection, but the ones I really liked were even more expensive than the ones I purchased.  The ones that were cheaper were very unattractive.  I'll definitey keep my eye out for different options!  Thanks

I've seen every color imaginable on Amazon.

My Jo-Anns is a sad, sad place with cranky employees who are incapable of cutting straight lines.

  • Really cute... great job!
  • Really cute & great job!  For what it's worth, no one is going to see or care what the snaps look like, except for you.  I'd be going for the cheaper yet good quality snaps, regarless of what they look like.

Do you mind if I ask you what you think it cost you to make one diaper?  I want to try CDing after the first month or so after my LO arrives.  I can get them for $6.50 a piece (wholesale).  The low price plus not having to go through the aggravation of making them when I am sleep deprived is making me lean towards purchasing rather than making them.

    Thanks!  Big Smile

Yes, I can. I keep a log of all that kind of stuff.  Sadly, I'm at work and my list is at home.  I will try my hardest to post the price for you tomorrow.  It wasn't cheap, though it could have been made cheaper (had I used solid PUL as opposed to printed, if I used something other than microsuede and terry.  Also, the snaps).

I can tell you it wasn't anywhere near $6.50.  WHat brand are you getting that cheap?? I'm jealous!  I have 2 dozen bumgenius.

Ok, without sales and coupons it would cost just under $16 per diaper.  With the coupons and sales that I used/got the price is just over $8 per diaper.

But again, the fabrics and snaps can alter the price.
