So we went to dinner tonight with my family. Leave the restaurant and stop by Target so I can pick up a couple of things. Hubby parks the car and waits for me. Out I come, hop in the car and it won't start. Dead battery. Call AAA. While we are waiting my DH says "we'll have to see if we can find someplace open so we can get a new battery tonight." I look at him like he's crazy ... it's 9:20PM on a SUNDAY night! I don't think any autoparts store is open at 9:20 on a Sunday night. I suggest WalMart but it all depends on when AAA gets there.
AAA arrives around 9:30. We ask the guy "know anyplace we can get a battery tonight?" He says "yeah, me! But let me make sure it's actually dead first." So he tests it and confirms that it's a dead battery ... I've since found out that often times the battery is just run down and not actually a goner and AAA has the testing thing to find out for sure. So for a nice $120 he put a new AAA battery in my car in the Target parking lot. I'm sure I could have gotten it a little cheaper but it would have required my hubby putting it in (which I'm sure would not have been drama free ... we don't have tons of tools) or a call to AAA again for a jump in the morning. Also, this battery has a 3 year "no questions asked" warranty and then for the next 3 years (for a total of 6 years) it's pro-rated ... guy says in year 4 it's like $20 to get it replaced. So a good deal! I had no idea AAA even offered such a program but they do! So if you ever need a jump and a new battery ask your AAA person!
That's my PSA for tonight!
Re: AAA saves the night!
Gotta love AAA. My only complaint is that they would not tow us in the snow with out chains. Which is fine, but our chain broke while driving and we were stuck going uphill in the middle of the street in a snowstorm. We ended up just our car on the side of the road and prayed that no one hit it. Luckily, no one did and all was ok.
Good to know. ?The dealer tells me my battery is bad, but my gauge is reading as normal. hmm.
Sears has one for like $90 I was thinking of getting.
Glad AAA was able to help you out.?
If you decide to get one have them make sure they test it first (I wouldn't trust the dealer).
Mine was $120 from AAA.
Gotta love AAA. They have saved me many, many times over the years.
Additional PSA: You can take your car to almost any auto parts store (Kragen, Auto Zone, Napa) and they will come out to your car and test your battery for free.
