Side by side is definitely easier in my experience.

We currently have side by side, and have been talking about how we can stack them (may require us to remove some cabinetry, etc).  Mostly this is because we have a designated laundry room that would become so much more spacious and open for a drying rack and a folding table, maybe even our ironing board out full time if we did this.  So, our ideal would be to take up as little space as possible, but we currently have side-by-side.

I think it depends on what kind you have.  We had stacked in our apartment and I didn't mind it but I can see that with some, it would be hard to see into the dryer to get everything out.  I'm not loving our current side by side in the garage, I keep dropping wet clean clothes on the floor as I try to toss them in the dryer.

Do you have a front-load washer?  I just put a laundry basket in front of mine as I pull the clothes out and, voila, problem solved!

No, I'm going from a top load washer to a front load dryer.  I usually do have a clean basket there, but sometimes it's in the house or something.  It's not a big deal but our garage is filthy!

Yeah, that's a pain.  I don't even like it when I drop laundry on my tiled laundry room floor   I just don't sweep/vacuum in there enough and it's so annoying to dirty freshly cleaned clothes!

How appropriate as we are shopping for a w/d. We have stacking @ our apt and it works. However, me being vertically challenged...it is a PITA to get all of the stuff out of the dryer. We have enough room to do side by side @ our new house.
