Dear Community,

Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

If you have questions about this, please email help@theknot.com.

Thank you.

Note: This only affects The Nest's community members and will not affect members on The Bump or The Knot.

Newbie Questions

Obviously I'm rather new to TN, but how are you able to post your siggy pictures and pictures within posts?  I want to be able to play in some of the posts and respond with pictures, but just don't know how!

Re: Newbie Questions

  • There's a sticky thread with good directions on pictures: http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/47661634.aspx

A couple of other things to know about TN:

Links aren't automatically clickable, you have to press the little "link" button while highlighting the word you want linked to make it into a link (if that makes any sense haha).

Also, I recommend sorting your posts so sticky posts are at the top. On the main oct 2010 page go to the bottom of the page where the "viewing preferences" box is. Set the first 2 dropdowns as "Sort: Last post date in descending order"

HTH! TN is def different than TK but once you learn how to use it, it's not so bad.

  • This also might be helpful, I do it all the time.

If you see a picture online that you want to put within a post, all you have to do is right click on it, go down to where it says Properties, click on that, and then copy the Address (URL).  Once you have that copied, go to the little icon in the post that looks like a picture of a tree (right next to the smiley face), if you put your mouse over it it says Insert/edit Image.  Click on that.  Then simply paste the Address(URL) you just copied into the box next to Image URL then hit insert.  It will show up in your post.  You can resize it just by clicking on the sides and making it bigger or smaller.  Hope this helps!

  • If you are using Flickr, you can just copy the HTML code they provide and paste it into your siggy line in your profile.  HTH!

  • Well I found how to get the embed code from my photos on Shutterfly, but when I put the code in my signature, it doesn't work .... Huh?  I'll just keep trying, but thanks for the advise so far!  It definitely helps!

  • This was under the FAQ:

How do I put a picture in my signature?
    - Upload your picture to a hosting site such as Photobucket.com or Shutterfly.com.
    - Find the direct link to your photo by right-clicking on the picture and finding the URL under properties (it will end in .jpg or another file ending for a picture). If the URL is long, you may need to shorten it using a site like tinyurl.com.
    - Go to your profile page and scroll down to the Signature field and enter in this code: <img src*="YOUR URL HERE" width="180px">. Take out the * and then you can modify the size of the picture by adjusting the "180" higher or lower.
