Survived the Warrior Dash!

Woo hooo! I'm now a certified warrior! ... Along w/ 15,000 other people who ran that race this weekend.

Race Report:

Two words could nearly sum it up: Hot and muddy.

It was 101 in KC. The girl I was running w/ was really overcome by the heat so had to walk about 2/3 of it (although a lot of people were due to the terrain and the overwhelming heat). Most of the obstacles weren't awful. One was very scary and my friend and I nearly got stuck on it b/c it was so difficult and cumbersome. The mud was super goopy and thick.

Ambulances were on a steady stream in and out b/c of people suffering heat exhaustion. They actually cancelled the remainder of the races about 30 after we finished.

They ran out of water at the shower station so hundreds of people (including me) bathed in the creek to get the mud off.

I did get to enjoy a giant turkey leg. :-)

Overall, it was super awesome and I'd totally do it again. I would have liked to run the places where footing was okay since I felt really good. Makes me consider doing the Tough Mudder.

Re: Survived the Warrior Dash!

  • That is awesome/INSANE!  Sounds like a great time.  Congrats!

One of my friends sent me pics from his race in MN, and I cringed. My line between Athlete and Girly Girl is apparently drawn at the word MUD. Big Smile

  • Pretty much agree! Once the novelty of finishing the race wore off but the mud was still there, I wasn't too cheery. Ick!
  • what day did you run? my h did it on saturday around 11 and he said the course was super muddy from friday nights rain and it was only going to get worse.  I so want to do it next year after seeing so many people who "look" like they are in worse shape than I am doing it (that was my biggest fear was not being in shape enough)...
  • I did it on Sunday at 11:30. It was a lot of fun. There was only one obstacle that upper body strength even played the slightest role in. All the other ones were easy strength-wise (just a little skeeery). It was a BLAST!

    You have to do it!

  • Congrats!  That's awesome!  My husband just did a tough mudder in Wisconsin and he loved it.  Being there made me want to do it too!
  • Rumor is that the Tough Mudder is coming HERE next year! I'm SO in!!
