slumber party activities

SD is having a slumber party this coming Saturday night. I'm taking the girls to the pool that afternoon - I want to wear them out so they'll sleep some - but I need some ideas for that evening. The girls will be in the upstairs bonus room & there is a TV & DVD player along with plenty of beds to sleep in. So they definitely will be watching a movie (or 2). But what else can they do???

Here's what I'm thinking so far:

I'll pick up the girls at 12 noon & we'll come to our house & have sandwiches & chips for lunch. We'll probably leave the house at about 1:30 & head to the pool for a few hours. We'll come back home at about 5 or so & order pizza for supper. They'll watch movies but what else can they do? Keep in mind that they're 10 years old & I don't want to do anything too messy. Thanks for your help!

Re: slumber party activities

  • We used to play dream phone and mall maddness I'm pretty sure those aren't inn anymore lol.

What about a not too messy craft....or decorating cookies?

We used to play games outside at night like spud or sardines or kickball (not sure how many girls there are)

Can you give them manicures or pedicures? Or french braid/curl their hair?

In college we used to print out disney princess coloring pages and color (does that make us uncool?)

  • You can buy a couple white pillowcases and they can decorate them w/ fabric markers. We did a tie-dye pillowcase party once for girl scouts then we got to use fabric markers to sign names and whatnot but we were camping so you can skip the dye portion if you want lol.

Ooooo or a scavenger hunt to find a surprise movie or something.

  • We used to do puzzles, murder mysteries, scavenger hunts, Mad-libs, and hair/nail makeovers. Good luck :)

  • When I had my friend Jill's girls over to stay with Amanda they got a kick out of playing hide and seek in the dark (with tree lights and night lights, of course).  Naturally it was the "big kid's" idea (that would be my hubby, LOL and we played with them the whole time & they loved it). Baking cookies is a fun idea too, or maybe doing some kind of (not too messy) craft that they can take home the next day.

Amanda & the girls liked going downstairs, watching TV and sleeping in the basement.  Once they went down there all was quiet for the rest of hte night!  :)

  • Oh man, that sounds like fun :)  When I was 10 I was allowed to have my first sleepover, and we watched music videos and danced (this was when MTV played music, remember?) and we did makeovers, nails, hair etc.   And then we had a little pageant , and my mom picked a winner.  I think she gave us all prizes, just to be fair LOL!  I'm sure makeovers will be a hit with the girls!!!!  I like everyone else's ideas too!

  • Movies are always good.  Also, games of any sort could be lots of fun.  I think they would enjoy makeovers too, especially since they are at the age where they really like to do girly things.

  • Thank you all for the great ideas. Sarah saw the bonus room all fixed up & squeeeealed! She is so excited. I just hope that all of her friends are able to come. I emailed invitations last monday to 3 girls & I've only heard back from one so far. We know that one of the girls won't come b/c her parents are SUPER overprotective. (They won't let her go to parties or class field trips if one of the parents can't go. They've been known to invite themselves to the kid's parties.)

    Keep the great ideas coming!

  • I was thinking nails, just because they could all sit around and talk while they do it. But hide and seek in the dark sounds pretty fun too!

  • Jewelry making crafts are fun for that age. My SD did that the next am at a sleepover. Mad libs are great too. There are so many options for crafty stuff at ACMoore or Michaels. Making smores? or an ice cream sundae set up with a variety of toppings (with supervision of course)

  • This post is making me want to be a kid again!!!!!!!

I hope your SD and her friends have the best time :)

  • Ahh how fun!!  I think it would be cool to do something with ice cream since you are having pizza for supper.  I really like the sundae thing where you have oodles of toppings and they can make whatever they want.

  • The only downfall of the pizza and ice cream the night we had Caitlin & Paige over night was that too much excitement plus just enough dairy makes Paige puke.  I didn't realize this until I called my friend's husband (since she works midnights in a hospital) to tell him about it, and he said "oh yeah once in a while she does that."

I have to give the kid credit - at 1:30 am that 6 year old got every drop in the toilet.
