I need help calling the US.

My bank has an international contact number, but I am certain that I have to dial something before the number to get it to go through (because if I just dial it, it says that the number doesn't work).

 Can anyone help me?

This is the toll free number I was given: 0800-53-502

Re: I need help calling the US.

  • What country are you trying to call from?

From the UK, you dial '00', then the international code, then the number.

  • What bank is it? 0800 numbers are usually UK numbers, not US numbers. If so, you do +44. If it is a US number, dial 00 before the number.

If you google call xxx from xxx, it will walk you through the steps.

I am calling from Lima, Peru.

Google is not being very helpful right now, LOL!

  • If you are calling a US 800 number dial 001 800 then the rest....sometimes 800 numbers won't go through internationally and you need a local toll number (one with a normal area code).

EDIT: That's not a US phone number...maybe it's a local international number? Or a UK number?

  • do you have skype?  I use skype to call 800 numbers from holland.
  • That number doesn't make sense - it doesn't have enough numbers for any country I know.

  • which bank are you with - maybe we can help find a number for you.
  • I second TotZiens'suggestion of using the normal American number with skype. Otherwise, use the normal American number with 00- (1).

  • The bank is USAA.  They do say that I can call them collect, although I am not quite sure how to do that from here.

I didn't even think to try Skype.  Excellent idea!
