Has this ever happened to anyone? Re: carpets

About a week ago I had our carpets professionally cleaned.  The only pre-existing stains were wear and tear around both doorways. I knew they wouldn't come out and wasn't really worried about that. I checked out the room after the guy left and it looked good.

A couple days later I noticed some rust colored stains in several places around the room (not where the other stains had been). I was really baffled and not happy, but thought maybe one of the dogs had made them or something.  So I got some warm soapy water and scrubbed the areas. It seemed to disappear right away. But as soon it dried the spots were back and seemed worse. So I cleaned them again. And again they looked gone, only to reappear when dry. So now I'm really confused.

Any ideas what it could be?

  • I;m no expert, but it sounds like you have some cheap metal staples/clasps holing your carpet down. I woudl suggest cleaning it again, and blow drying it with your hair dryer before it can "re-rust", sounds like someone used the wrong kind of staples/clasps in your carpeting!

It sounds like this to me too. I've never heard of it happening on carpet before-only sheet vinyl, but it makes sense. They should staple the padding down.

  • I agree with the previous posters, my first thought is that something is rusting underneath your carpet. I've seen this happen in cars as well.
