So... thought I'd fill you all in on my awesome vacation... we left the 11th, stopped in Vegas, walked around... it was super hot but just nice to relax... we were back in the room by 8pm, lol... neither of us are partiers or late night owls and we had to wake up to hit the road... great stop though.... then onto the Grand Canyon... AWESOMELY breathtaking... oh my gosh... wow. I really want to go back when I have more time and do some hiking or even rafting there.... from there we went onto Flagstaff, also beautiful, stopped at the Meteor Crater (neat!) then through some of the Southern states... TX and so on... we stopped on the AK/TN border and then went onto D's new home in Alabama... spent the night in his new condo which is super nice... then we stopped a night in Charlotte where I got to meet nestie Wendy!! So awesome! She took me to this place where I had the best bbq EVER! She's super nice! ... then onto Roanoke where his mom lives and stayed with her a few days. She's super nice and had a nice, relaxing few days there.... all this while we were really working hard on staying healthy and working out and it felt GREAT... I didn't get that awful, "on vacation" overly stuffed feeling... so, D insisted on taking me to DC, which was my dream, even though he didn't particularly want to go so I got to go to DC!! That was a definite highlight. I, the self-proclaimed dorky Government teacher got to see:
The Supreme Court, the Capitol, the inside of the House of Representatives, the Licnoln Memorial, Washington Monument, the Smithsonian, the actual Constitution, Declaration and Bill of Rights... Oh my gaaawwwshhH! I literally had to keep myself from squeeaaling when I went into the House of Reps... so awesome.
From there, Dave put me on a train (so sad to say goodbye, we had suuuuch a great time together)... from there I went to Boston and met up with Krissy in Boston!! Oh my gosh, Krissy is soooo awesome! Her family is too! I felt so at home there and I got to see where Paul Revere lived, the oldest warship afloat, where Sam Adams is buried... where the declaration was read from in 1776... oh my goodness... sooo awesome. Maggie is adorable, Matt is awesome (the man did the dishes every night and SCRUBBED THE STOVE... I about fell over!!). We met up with Lauren and Maria and the babes in beautiful Rhode Island (check another state off!!)... soooo awesome!
Anyway, that was a long, but short, recap of my three weeks on the road... I came home and was exhausted but have been productive getting all cleaned out and organized before the new school year.... had an AWESOME time but also am glad to be home...
Overall... I loooved the South, truly felt like I was at home with the kindness and open spaces... the east was great too (though DC can keep the crazy hot humidity)... I wasn't used to the humidity in general and I totally broke out, lol... but I loooved seeing more of this country than I ever have the rest of my life!!!
Thank you to the awesome, hospitable nesties for fitting me into your schedule and an extra special HUGE thank you to Krissy for offering her home and making me feel like part of her family! Luv you girls!
