A bit of a landlord vent...

DH and I have been renting the same apartment for the past two years.  Suddenly on Sunday, we receive a text from our landlord.  He says he has sold our apartment (which we didn't know was for sale) and that we have 30 days to vacate. This is the minimum amount of days notice that is allowed here. So we have to find somewhere else to rent and move out within the next 30 days! DH and I both work 48 hour work weeks so it is going to be a busy month! Also, rents have skyrocked here since we signed our last lease, and damage deposits are 2 full months rent..... sigh.  I really liked our apartment too.

Sorry for the whining, but I just needed a little moment to vent. I am sure I will learn to like the next place too.

Re: A bit of a landlord vent...

  • See, I'm sceptical. If rents have sky rocketed, then part of me thinks that your landlord wants to cash in on higher rent. Especially since you had no indication that the place was even for sale.

Sorry you have to move though, that stinks. Good luck finding and loving a new place.

  • I agree with mrs.p. It's a bit strange that someone would buy something without seeing it first (which I assume they haven't since you didn't know it was for sale and I don't think the landlord has the right to enter your home without your knowledge).

I hope good things will come out of this and you ll be able to find an even better apartment.

I agree.  The same thing happened to a friend of ours and it was so hard on them.  Luckily they were able to find a place relatively quickly.  I wish you the best of luck finding a place!

  • I agree as well.  I know that maybe 6 months back they were thinking about selling, but they raised our rent and nothing more came of it.

I am sure it will work out for the best in the end.  We are going to look at places tomorrow and some of them seem really nice.

Thanks for all the luck :)
