After many months of lessons, mishaps with tests, and complete frustration with the roads here, I've finally passed my driving test! Yay! I am so happy, but mostly relieved since this has been such a pain.
No we're looking forward to taking some roadtrips in the near future!
Thanks to everyone who provided advice and encouragement.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Getting my British DL was one of the most challenging things of my life... from accepting the fact that I had to take lessons in spite of being a licensed, accident-free driver for 16 years to actually displacing all sense of logic when performing "reverse around the corner" - a driving move so unsafe that I had to learn how to suspend my brain to actually make myself do it.
When I asked the test instructor if it wouldn't make more sense to turn into the next road and then turn around to get to the road I'd missed, rather than reversing into oncoming traffic, you'd have thought I'd just suggested that he buttfucck Queen Elizabeth II.
Memories!!
Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
Thanks all.
And LTP, I totally agree. I asked my instructor when one would actually ever reverse around a corner, and he tried to give me a number of reasons. All of which I side-eyed.

Yeah, we keep thinking we should do something about this. I've had my license for 14 years in the states so it's just a bit overwhelming to start from scratch again.
Congrats!!

Congrats! That's very good news. You know, everyone I talked to at work and even DH admitted to having taken the test at least twice before passing. Not good
I need to start studying for my test...
Sorry I missed your earlier posts but did you go to a driving school?

I signed up for lessons through a school - I probably ended up doing 20+hrs on the road - but there was no classroom component. Without a car of our own and/or a licensed driver in the house / nearby, I didn't really have a choice but to hire an instructor.

Yay!!!! Whew! That is out of the way. I actually had to reverse around a corner about a week and a half after passing my test. I was dropping of a meal to some friends, so I was unfamiliar with their neighborhood and it was one of those streets, where there is only enough room for one car and both side were lined with parked cars and I turned into a dead end, and there was a car waiting for me, so I had to reverse around the corner to get out of their way, with parked cars at dusk. Man, that was nerve wracking.
As for when I get back after 10 months in Korea, the idea of getting back on the UK roads still fills me with anxiety.
