Any travel recommendations?

I already posted on the Travel board, but thought I'd ask my local nesties too. I plan on going to Costa Rica toward the end of October. But, before I get there, I'll be spending a day in Miami. Any recommendations on what to do in Miami in a day? I've never been there.  Thanks!

Re: Any travel recommendations?

  • Where are you staying? Totally depends on that. If you're down by coral galbles I'd recommend coconut grove. There are a bunch of little shops, restaurants, ice cream, places. If you're more north, then I'd say Lincoln road - same thing but on Miami beach.

You could go have a leisurely brunch/lunch somewhere fabulous. I love the poolside restaurant at the Raleigh Hotel in South Beach. Or the Fountainebleu. For less pricey, try the Front Porch Cafe on Ocean Drive. You could also check out Little Havana for authentic Cuban food. Or if you're into art, the Design District has great restaurants, galleries and stores. Or you could visit Vizcaya.

You could also head to the beach by 17th St. They have nice chaises and umbrellas to rent there.

  • Fun ideas! We haven't booked a hotel yet so we are open on the location.

I agree that Coconut Grove and South Beach are worth seeing.  DH lived in Miami for a year and swears that Monti's (locations in Coconut Grove and South Beach) has the best happy hour in Miami.

Have a fabulous time in Costa Rica.  I travel a lot and it is still my favorite place that I've been.   I'm not sure where you are planning to go, but I'll say my favorite two things I did on the trip in case you are in that area.

    1. The beach at the national park in Manuel Antonio-- we had monkeys come up and hang out with us on the beach.  AWESOME!

    2. La Fortuna Waterfall (near Arenal volcano)--I think this is an area that gets overlooked in the guide books.  It is only $10 (I think) and you hike this nice trail down to a beautiful waterfall that you can swim at the base of.

  • Thank you! We are thinking about South Beach and Coconut Grove. We haven't chosen a hotel yet.

In Costa Rica, we will unfortunately miss Manual Antonio. We were originally going to go, but don't have enough time. After flying into San Jose we go to Arenal (that waterfall sounds great Buttercup), then on to Monteverde, and Torteguero.  Really looking forward to it. It's our first time traveling out of the country together. :) Really appreciate all the recommendations!

  • I went to FL for our honeymoon and if you are going to stay in South Beach and Coconut Grove area then you want to go to the restaurant called Jaguars!!! Its in Coconut Grove and it is amazing!!! The food is delish and the atmosphere is awesome too!! My husband and I also rented some beach cruisers and went up and down the beach!!! Hope you have a good time!!!
