pests :(

This year I am incredibly frustrated with my vegetable garden. I have about 10 squash plants and 6 tomato plants, and I've had about 2 squashes and 2 tomatoes. First it was squash bugs on the squash plants. I *think* I got that under control by crushing every one that I could find, now that most of the plants are half dead. Now there are stink bugs and what I think are tomato pinworms killing the tomatoes. I picked a couple of tomatoes and when I cut them open they had little caterpillars inside! It was gross.

I don't know what to do. I've tried insecticidal soap. I've tried some other bottle of "organic insecticide" whatever that means. I bought some Neem Oil and I'll be using that tomorrow I suppose.

What am I doing wrong? I feel like I have put so much time and energy into my little tiny garden, and I can't get anything out of it. Plus, I am spending a small fortune on trying to get rid of these bugs.

Any advice?

Re: pests :(

  • I had a similar problem. My milkweed (that I bought for butterflies) was dying due to aphids killing it. So I bought a praying mantis egg, let it hatch, and as the mantids grow up they take care of the aphids :] The praying mantis is a natural pesticide!
